Agribusiness Today Mixed Farming Forum The upcoming Agribusiness Today Mixed Farming Systems of the Future Forum has been described by Dr Karl Behrendt, senior lecturer in agribusiness at Charles Sturt University (CSU), as an event ‘not to be missed by any serious grain or livestock producer who has an interest in where their industries are heading and how to make it more profitable for today and into the future’. The forum, to be held at Forbes on Thursday August 13, will bring together a range of speakers looking at diverse issues such as tropical grass in a central west environment, future technologies in mixed farming systems, the current state of play for grain and livestock markets, the influencers in these markets and the outlooks. A field trip will follow on August 14, offering producers a hands-on experience of how innovations in mixed farming are being applied. “We’ve tried to look out over the horizon at what the challenges will be and come back with some options, many of which embrace new technologies as agriculture starts to move through the 21st Century,” said Dr Behrendt. “We’re not just examining the future but have tried to bring in first-hand experience with a range of case studies and the field trip on the second day,” Dr Karl Behrendt said the event will showcase current prices and market information for crops and livestock but also provides some forward thinking about the future possibilities for agriculture in the region. “We’re examining how to remain profitable in an ever changing cropping and livestock environment, and also offering an opportunity for grain producers and graziers to hear first-hand about the latest innovations in their industries.” The two day forum and field trip is being offered through a partnership between CSU, Regional Development Australia Central West, Central West Local Land Services and Central West Farming Systems.
