WELCOME AND ANNOUNCEMENTS: Acknowledgement of Country “We acknowledge the traditional owners and custodians of the lands on which CSUs campuses are located, and pay respect to their Elders both past and present.” 2. MEMBERSHIP Resignation of Charlie Eager due to workload commitments. Peter Eels, Director Planning and Development to be removed from the ‘In Attendance’ section Discussion about membership identified the need to seek Ian Lunt’s advice re continued membership, and explore mechanisms to provide opportunities for external parties to contribute to committee decision making. Suggestions included Local Councils’ sustainability teams, local ethnic communities, and Albury environmental Lands as we share a border. ACTION 052015 - 01 Establish meeting where CEC can invite external groups to discussion to inform practice and initiatives in this space. 3. RATIFICATION OF MINUTES Business arising & review of action items from last meeting. The final map to be circulated, with accompanying Senior Executive Memo, by flying minute for review and ratification by members. 20/5/15 DFM report on 021815 – 3 DFM to review offset planting tracking process - DFM report via CSU Green shows that 700 trees are required as offset planting for Sports Ground development. However, no funding was allocated in the project budget for tree planting. Therefore, CSU will plant 700 trees over time as resources allow. - The attached map shows the area earmarked for off-set planting. It was noted that volunteers’ planting as part of tree planting day is shown as grey area on the map, and that this will not be used as offset planting. - DFM have completed preparatory work: mapping, fencing, weed treatment, and closing areas for natural revegetation. They aim to progress tree planting with advice from the AWCEC. - The committee highlighted the need for o Projects to allocate funds for offset planting where required o A formal CSU system that enables tracking and mapping of offset planting DFM report on 021815 – 4 biodiversity map Progress is being made, with Map due for finalisation by next meeting. 4. MATTERS FOR DECISION 4.1 Ideas for the future direction for Albury Wodonga Campus Environment Committee (see appendix 1). Members ranked ideas and refined objectives in order to establish focus for the committee’s work. The outcome was as follows: 1. Defining environment as first concern. 2. Contribute, participate and advocate in ways that facilitate sustainability being imbedded in education at CSU 3. Identify ideas and opportunities for action that enhances sustainability practice at CSU 4. Contribute to and identify opportunities for action that embed sustainability in all aspects of University with honest appreciation of unsustainable decisions, in particular by championing in Albury Wodonga and broader CSU the work of CSU Green 5. MATTERS FOR NOTING AND DISCUSSION 5.1 Regional Centre of Expertise (RCE) Murray-Darling Verbal update from Nikki Scott (member Interim Board). ACTION 052015 - 02: HOC to write to RCE-MD and request clarification of the strategy, intent and objectives, including advice about outcomes in the knowledge that the end of the lifespan of RCE is 2016. (cc CSU Green) 6. OTHER BUSINESS 7.1 CSU Green funding Current sustainability grants are open until 3 July. $15,000 for on campus projects and EOI for $50,000 grant. Discussion about projects the AWCEC could undertake with funding from CSU Green. Decision to apply for a grant for Campus signage: Walking tracks, trail signs, Indigenous knowledges, frogletts and other species located on campus. ACTION 052015 - 03 WR and VJ to identify material related to planned signage (Fauna/flora and Indigenous) and provide to JaC who will use this to draft a submission to be circulated for committee comment prior to submission. 7.2 VC Awards for Excellence Sustainability category.
