Making Apple Cider
By: Sal M. 4-J
My friends, the Kwasniks and my family made apple cider. First, we picked apples in
the orchard. We had to make sure they were good. They couldn't be rotten or full
of holes. We washed them off and brought them over to a machine. It was a cider
press. It had a handle that turned. As we turned it, it cut the apples into little pieces.
Afterwards, they fell into a basket. When the basket was full, a black lid fit onto it.
We put a bucket under the nozzle and turned a metal piece four or five times to
squeeze the cider out of the apples. It started to drip slowly into the bucket but then
it ran faster until it was full. You can store the fresh cider in the refrigerator for later but
we filled our water bottles, shook it up and drank it right away.
It was the best cider I ever tasted. It was delicious!
