They own Alambria Springs Farm. It is a CSA, which is Community Supported Agriculture. This means people buy a share of the farm for a year. These people give the money to buy seeds. Then, Brian and Amy are able to plant four or five big gardens. Brian has a huge water tank with a hose hooked to it, on his tractor. He drives around and pushes a button to spray water. He does this to water the seeds so they sprout. Once they sprout, the plants grow. The plants start to get bigger. Sometimes, Cory comes down to get me. He brings me to his house so I help Brian plant red and green lettuce with a hand-planting machine. is a bushel or more every week. People can pick their own vegetables like green, purple and yellow beans. They take them home and eat them. Sometimes they have to cook them first like beets. Sometimes, they store them like pumpkins, potatoes, winter squash and carrots. We keep the honey for special occasions like sore throats. I help around the farm. Besides planting, I make sure that the trees stay straight so they don’t fall over. I also muck the horses by shoveling the manure. I love the goat the most even though she was a little bit “kicky” when I first met her. I was only seven when I first weeded the goat pen. Now, I brush the goats off. I also wash the goat’s horns because they get really dirty when they eat. They put their heads down and they stick their horns right into the ground. After the girl goat had a baby, I milked her. First, I had to clean her udder off and wait for it to dry. Next I had to squeeze one teat and pull the other. I squirted the milk into a bucket. Later, Brian took it to the milk shed and put the bucket into cold, cold water. This cools the milk. Then the milk is filtered and dumped into jugs so Amy can make goat’s milk cheese. larger and longer. They have yellow blossoms. The farm makes me happy because farming When the flower dies away, underneath is a small is what I wanted to do when I was a little boy. green pumpkin. They grow and ripen. Now I have. I learn new things all the time. Farming is cool and vegetables taste really Amy and Brian pick the vegetables ready for good! If this sounds good to you, you could join harvest. People come to the farm every Saturday next year. Here is their website so you can learn to get their share of the “veggies”. She decided that the pumpkins needed to be picked. She couldn’t pick them all by herself because there were too many. She asked for help picking the pumpkins before the ants ate them. Joe and his friends decided to help pick all the pumpkins the next day. Over night, it got very cold and a frost covered the pumpkins. Joe and his friends saw the frost on the pumpkins but there were no more ants! The next week the pumpkins were ready to be picked. Joe and his friends filled the hay wagon with all the pumpkins! The Pumpkin By Katelyn C. Drawn by Hannah M. Leaves 3-Eaves 2-Morbidini One day, the first grade class went to the pumpkin patch. Sara found a pumpkin that was too heavy to pick up. She asked the bus driver to help her pick it up. The bus driver helped her load the pumpkin onto the bus. When they got back to school, they took the seeds out. Then they made a pumpkin pie with the teacher. They put plastic on it and took it home. 1- Callea By Jonathon K. Drawn by Abbie E. 3-Eaves In the fall, the leaves changed color and fell off the trees in my backyard. My mom asked me to clean them up. I had to start up the leaf blower to clean them up. My lawn looked clean after I used it. Then one day, a windstorm blew the leaves onto everybody’s lawn. The whole neighborhood got together with their leaf blowers. We made a huge pile of leaves. After that, we had a neighborhood leaf 2 jumping party! Wanted Do you feel inspired to draw? Do you like to write? Do you enjoy research? Do you see your name in print and feel special?
