Curious about... Bachelor of Arts What is CSU’s Bachelor of Arts? CSU’s Bachelor of Arts offers subjects in a wide variety of areas useful for enhancing life skills and creating employment opportunities in government and private enterprise. This course provides a foundation generalist degree that equips you with the skills and knowledge required to be a white collar professional. The degree is flexible and can be studied on campus or by distance education. There are two patterns of study, either a double major with one minor or a single major with three minors. Why study CSU’s Bachelor of Arts? As a Bachelor of Arts graduate, you will be valued by employers for your ability to gather information, think critically, assess and interpret evidence, and communicate clearly. The degree is broad, allowing you to study a variety of disciplines at CSU. What will I study? Some reasons for studying Arts at CSU: • this degree is highly valued by employers as it demonstrates your ability to gather and interpret information, showing you can communicate clearly • you can choose to study an area you are passionate about with a wide range of majors and minors available • this course is available on campus or by flexible distance education so you can fit study around work and other lifestyle commitments. The course is organised as a combination of majors, minors and electives, giving you the opportunity to study subjects you are passionate about across a range of disciplines. You will study either two majors and one minor OR one major and three minors from the following: Majors You can tailor your study experience by selecting majors that you will study in-depth, including: • Art History • Philosophy •English • Politics •History • Psychology • Indigenous Studies • Sociology Minors Minor studies allow you to expand on your skills and knowledge in areas that interest you. Minors include: Art History, Children’s Literature, Computing, Economics, English, Environmental Studies, Global Studies, History, Human Bioscience, Indigenous Studies, Justice Studies, Law, Mathematics, Philosophy, Policy Studies, Politics, Psychology, Sociology, Theology, Visual Culture and Writing. You can apply to study a minor in other fields that interest you with the approval of the Course Director. They are qualified for employment in a wide range of professions in private enterprise, government, community organisations and arts institutions. Our graduates often combine their degree with a postgraduate qualification in teaching, journalism, librarianship, management, psychology or criminology, preparing them for specialised employment. A Bachelor of Arts followed by CSU’s graduate entry Bachelor of Teaching (Secondary) is a pathway to secondary teaching. Further study in the Bachelor of Teaching (Primary) is another option for students looking to become primary teachers. Less traditional combinations have also become common, for example, Bachelor of Arts graduates can now enter the accountancy profession through a postgraduate conversion course.
