Also, CSU seems to have the distance education systems set up very well.” Mary Chapman, CSU graduate Emergency Management at CSU CSU’s Emergency Management program is designed to respond to all sectors of industry, commerce and government that have an interest in asset management and asset protection, through furthering educational opportunities for those working in the disciplinary field of risk management. What will I learn? Emergency management has become recognised as a distinct field of study that is required for progression to senior and executive levels of management in statutory emergency services, community and health services, and local government. EMG401 Risk Management in the Emergency Management Context You will learn how risk management in emergency management can impact on your practice, from emergency management planning to emergency response, follow-up recovery planning and operations. The Graduate Certificate in Emergency Management fully articulates with the Graduate Diploma of Emergency Mangaement, which fully articulates with the Master of Emergency Management. Students will complete a range of core and elective subjects to graduate with a Graduate Certificate, Graduate Diploma or Master of Emergency Management. As a manager in investigations, my study has proved invaluable in helping me to develop my knowledge of investigative and management issues, as well as develop my critical thinking skills.” Alex McCutcheon, CSU graduate Fire Investigation at CSU CSU’s Fire Investigation courses aim to develop and increase the knowledge and professionalism of fire investigation practitioners and related professions. The focus is on investigative practice through the industry standard NFPA 1033 Professional Qualifications for Fire Investigator, with specific reference to NFPA 921 Guide for Fire and Explosion Investigation. Initially, course participants are exposed to current investigative best practice, the physics of fire behaviour and theories of deviance associated with fire-setting. Later studies include gaining specialist knowledge in areas such as ship / marine fires, vehicular fires, electrical incidents and the specialised dynamics and investigative practice involved with explosion investigation. The Graduate Certificate in Fire Investigation fully articulates with the Graduate Diploma of Fire Investigation, which fully articulates with the Master of Fire Investigation. What will I learn? Students will complete a range of core and elective subjects to graduate with a Graduate Certificate, Graduate Diploma or Master of Fire Investigation. Subjects in the program include: JST415 Foundations of Fire Investigation This subject explores the nature of investigations carried out at fire scenes to determine the cause and origin of the fire, including how to preserve the fire scene, examination, early identification of fraud indicators and exhibit handling, the behaviour of fires and occupational health and safety issues. JST455 Wildfire Investigation Students will gain an overview of the issues around wildfire investigation, including steps in the initial establishment of wildfire cause and origin, scene preservation specific to wildfire, and the elements to be considered to instigate a formal wildfire investigation.
