The lecture threw light on the value of Education vs. Value
Education using three beautiful stories from Sri.
Ramakrishna’s Gospel, Chhandogya Upanishad and from
Roger Penrose’s Emperor’s New Mind. Swami
Vivekananda’s thoughts on the importance of Character
building as the aim and end of all education was strongly
emphasized. Some of the practices successfully adopted
in Ramakrishna’s Mission’s educational institutions to
actualize the educational thoughts of Swami Vivekananda
were also explained.

The second session on Implementation of Tutor Marked
Assignments and Practicals for Learners of NIOS was
conducted by Dr. Sanghamitra Suryapani, Academic
Officer, NIOS. She highlighted on its importance as a
diagnostic tool with the tutors and identified the constraints
of implementing the TMA and linked it to the fact that
presently it is non- evaluative. She informed that under
the new rule, only one TMA would be administered and
will carry a weightage of 20 marks. The TMA would include
application and skill based questions rather than
knowledge based. This was followed by a presentation
