their neighborhoods. Many children get around on
bikes, scooters, skates and skateboards These
activities are great for growing minds and bodies,

a helmet every time.
Did you know…
In Maryland, all children under the age of 16 must wear a helmet when riding a bike- it’s
the law. Since your child looks up to you as a role model, you should also wear a helmet
every time you ride a bike.

Infants (children younger than 1 year old). It is not safe for
infants to ride on bikes, even with adults.
Toddlers (children 2-3 years old) who are using tricycles, toy
cars, or any wheeled vehicle must wear a well fitted helmet.
Good habits start early.
•
Older children (4-12 years old) should wear the correct size
and type of helmet every time they ride. When riding
skateboards, scooters, or bikes, older children should wear a
“multi-sport” helmet.
•
Teens & Adults should always wear a helmet when riding a
bike, scooter, etc. Helmets are not just for kids – they have
saved the lives of many teens and adults too. And, wearing
your helmet sets a good example for your children.
