know if you are coming.)
REMEMBER:
 all market sheep, swine and goats are required to be weighed and tagged. If the 4-H/FFA member is not able to
attend, they must request permission to have someone else bring their animal to re-fair. A written request is due
on May 5th to the Extension Office.
 Members may weigh 2 animals of each species at pre-fair. You must determine BEFORE fair which animal will come
to fair. Records must be kept on both animals.
 Both animals you are weighing are required to have a COOL form turned in at pre-fair. Forms are required to be
signed by the person you purchased your animal from. As the animal goes into the scales, tell the clerk your name,
give them the COOL form and identify the animal as 4-H or FFA.
 All animals will be tagged with an auction tag. Sheep and goats will also be tagged with a scrapies tag.
 Make sure pigs ears are clean before you come to pre-fair; then, at pre-fair each 4-H’er is required to rewash their
pig’s ears with disinfectant before they are tagged. After tagging, it is the responsibility of the 4-H’er to check your
animal’s ear each day for at least two weeks. If you see swelling, bleeding, drainage or smell, clean the tagged area
with a disinfectant like an iodine solution and possibly a little fly spray. After two weeks the tagged area should be
healed, if you continue to have a problem contact your veterinarian.
