For software features supported in earlier Show and Share software releases, see the Cisco Show and Share Release Notes and the “Cisco Show and Share” section of the Release Notes for Cisco Digital Media Suite 5.3.x on Cisco.com. Installation Notes • Cisco Digital Media Suite (DMS) appliances require a DNS server to work correctly. Enter fully-qualified domain names (FQDNs) and not IP addresses during setup in the Appliance Administration Interface (AAI). Otherwise, appliances cannot operate as designed and most of the functions will fail. • Do not append a trailing dot to any FQDN during appliance setup. • To maintain network security, your Cisco DMM appliances and Show and Share appliances use digital certificates for communication. The certificates use the DNS-resolvable hostname to uniquely identify each appliance. Therefore, you must enter the DNS-resolvable hostname for each appliance during setup when prompted to enter the FQDN in AAI. • You must configure each DMS appliance in AAI to point to the DNS server for your network. Also configure the DNS server to associate each DMS appliance IP address with the FQDNs used by their digital certificates. Limitations and Restrictions • The Cisco MXA UCS M3 server running Cisco Show and Share Relese 5.5 does not support: – Digital signage – Digital media players – Cisco Cast – Cisco Digital Media Designer – Cisco Digital Media Player Device Manager. • When the Mobile Application Access feature is enabled, mobile users can view Cisco Show and Share videos without logging in. There is no forced authentication for mobile device access. • Cisco Show and Share running on a Cisco MXA UCS M3 server should be used with a Cisco DMM running on a Cisco MXA UCS M3 server. If other UCS servers are running in the same network environment there should be no impact to the operation of the Show and Share and DMM UCS servers. • You cannot use a single Cisco DMM for both digital signage and Show and Share files. • Configuring Digital Signs Failover on a DMM running Release 5.5 is not supported. Release Notes for Cisco Show and Share and Digital Media Manager Release 5.5 on the MXA UCS M3 Server 4 OL-27423-01 Installing Release 5.5 Software Installing Release 5.5 Software To install Release 5.5 software you need to backup the existing media and configuration files from the Cisco Show and Share and Cisco DMM appliances running Release 5.3.12, install Release 5.5 software, and then restore the backed up files. See these sections: • Supported Software Installation Path, page 5 • Guidelines and Limitations, page 5 • Backing Up an Appliance, page 6 • Installing Software on Cisco Show and Share and Cisco DMM Appliances, page 7 • Restoring Files on an Appliance, page 8 • Pair the Appliances, page 9 Supported Software Installation Path Table 4 lists the supported Cisco Show and Share and Cisco DMM software installation paths. Cisco Show and Share and Cisco DMM must both run the same software version. Table 4 Supported Software Installation Path Show and Share Software Installation Path Cisco DMM Installation Path 5.3.12 > 5.5 5.3.12 > 5.5 If you are on an earlier release, you must first upgrade to Release 5.3.12 before installing the Release 5.5 software. See the Release Notes for Cisco Show and Share and Digital Media Manager Release 5.3.10, 5.3.11, and 5.3.12 on the MXA UCS M3 Server for more information. Guidelines and Limitations • Release 5.5 software installation requires a full reimage of the system; it is not a software upgrade. System initialization steps are required after the reimage. Before installing Release 5.5 you must complete a database and content backup from both the Cisco Show and Share and Cisco DMM appliances. After completing the backup procedure you can proceed with the fresh install of Release 5.5. When installation is complete and the DMM patch is installed, you can restore the backup files. • We recommend that you back up to a remote rsync, SFTP, or FTP server instead of performing a back up on a USB drive. If you back up to a USB drive, you must copy the backup files to an FTP/SFTP server before restoring the files on the Cisco Show and Share and Cisco DMM appliances. • Media stored on external hosting locations is not backed up. If you delete a video from Cisco Show and Share, it is removed from the external hosting location. If you restore a backup taken before the video was deleted, you will see the video listed in Cisco Show and Share. The system will return a “file not found” error when you to play the video because it was previously removed from the external hosting location. Release Notes for Cisco Show and Share and Digital Media Manager Release 5.5 on the MXA UCS M3 Server OL-27423-01 5 Installing Release 5.5 Software • Back up and restore your entire system—Cisco Show and Share, Cisco DMM, and your external hosting locations—at the same time to ensure that the restored data matches across all three components. • When restoring a backup to a replacement appliance, you must install a new license on the replacement appliance after restoring the data. • Scheduled backup information is not retained in the backup file. When you restore your data you should reschedule any recurring backups. Backing Up an Appliance The backup procedure creates two files on the target device, one with a time stamp in the name and one without. Before You Begin • Verify that your appliance can communicate with the rsync, FTP, or SFTP server. • Verify that you have permissions to write to the rsync, FTP, or SFTP server.
