7. Dating Matters: Teen Dating Violence

What is dating violence? Dating Matters is a
comprehensive teen dating violence prevention
curriculum. It provides skills for youth, parents, and
educators on reducing and preventing dating
violence.
8. Coming Out: Supporting Your LGBTQ Peers @
Talbot. Kenneth Morrison, DoMore Baltimore.
Whether you are gay, lesbian, bisexual, transgender,
or you have a friend that is, this session provides tips
for “coming out” to family and friends , dealing with
bullying, and living your life as YOU.
9. Contraception 101: Preventing Pregnancy @
White Oak B. Vira David , Jeda Booker & Britany
Griffin, Know What U Want, U Choose, Baltimore City
Health Department.
Learn the various birth control methods for guys and
girls to reduce the chances of pregnancy and
sexually transmitted infections, including HIV/AIDS.
10. Drugs, Police and Your Rights @ Shafer 4.
Judge Barnett, East Baltimore Drug Free Coalition.
This session will share information on recreational
drugs that are popular among youth and provide
participants with risks and consequences. Come and
learn the real deal about pot. In addition, this
session will discuss police relations and civil rights.
11. Black & Brown People United for Violence
Prevention @ White Oak A. Gina Baez and Mynor
Cerros, Baltimore City Health Department.
With a desire to reduce youth violence and create
unity among the African-American and Hispanic
communities, a group of Hispanic teens living in
Baltimore started this coalition. This session will
present information on a youth-led violence
prevention campaign that aims to foster better
relationships among the races.
12. Positive Mind and Mental Health @ Suite 353.
Tania Wilson, and two youth, Family Visions LLC.
With numerous responsibilities from school, work,
and at home how can you maintain a healthy and
stable mindset. In this session, participants will learn
about the importance of mental health and resources
available that promote mental wellness.

Quick Facts:
1. Parenthood is the leading reason that teen
girls drop out of school. More than 50% of
teen mothers never graduate from high
school.
2. The US has the highest rates of STD
infection and teen pregnancy in the
Western industrialized world.
3. 8 out of 10 teen dads don’t marry the
mother of their child.
4. 1 in 4 teens contract a STD every year.
5. Less than 2% of teen moms earn a college
degree by age 30.
6. The annual number of STD new infections is
roughly equal among teen girls (51%) and
teen guys (49%).
General Information
Conference Goal: To increase health
awareness, knowledge, and prevention skills
among youth and young adults by promoting
prevention behaviors with a special emphasis
on sexual well-being. The summit focuses on
the needs of youth and will include youth led
workshops, special entertainment, a talent
show, multiple raffle drawings, and free HIV
and STD testing.
Target Audience: Peer Leaders, Youth,
Parents, Guardians, Youth Service Providers,
Faith Community, and Youth Educators.

Facebook, Twitter, Instagram, Tumblr. Do you have
any of these apps on your phone? This session will
explore how television, music, magazines, movies,
and social media influences teenagers’ attitudes
about dating, love, relationships, and sexual
decision-making.
2. Powerful Brothers! @ Mather. Sadiq Ali,
Millionaire Manners Academy.
There are stresses, challenges, frustrations,
pressures and media stereotypes but how you handle
them makes you rise above others. This session will
focus on helping African-American males soar by
helping them understand and manage what they feel
inside, and how they interact with the outside world.
3. Powerful Sisters! @ Talbot. Jill Smith, Maryland
Department of Health and Mental Hygiene and Karen
Buster, Baltimore County Health Department.
A workshop designed to empower the development
of positive self-perception through art therapy. The
exercise promotes acceptance of self..”the good, the
bad & the ugly”. It is crucial to first acknowledge and
then accept all parts of yourself—inside and out.

vocational training or joining the workforce there are
basics to master to achieve success. This session is a
guided discussion to look within: what skills do we
possesses, what aspirations do we have, what is our
dream?

Through games and discussion, participants will
learn about signs, symptoms, treatment and
consequences of HIV and other STDs.
