Announcements a. Joint ATC/ACAT meeting -‐ Sales reminded the committee that the ACAT committee members will join the committee for the second part of the April 8, 2016 meeting. b. New ATC Member-‐ Sales noted that Ardavan Asef-‐Vsziri now serves on ATC in place of David Miller who is became chair. c. Kurogo Higher ED Mobile Conference 2016 (http://www.kurogoconference.com/) -‐ Schantz invited all to attend the upcoming Kurogo Higher ED Mobile Conference 2016. The conference will take place on-‐campus on March 22-‐24, 2016. There is a discount rate offered to all CSUN faculty and staff. Sales stated that he would share the conference link with the committee. 2. Approval of Minutes – The minutes from the December 4, 2016 and February 5, 2016 joint ATC/ERC meeting were approved without amendments. 3. Previous Meeting Action Items Review a. Portfolium – Baker shared that a link to Portfolium was added next to the portal login. b. Assistance with Zoom -‐ Baker shared that Perez has been in contact with faculty that requested assistance with Zoom. 4. Chair Report a. ACAT Meeting Update –Zell shared that February meeting topics included Zoom, Learning Management system update. In addition, Wayne Smith presented on open computing and data science, with discussion on the possibility of creating student dashboard data for faculty and adding more variables with the faculty rosters. Sales noted that there will be no ACAT meeting in March. b. Resolution Regarding Affordable Learning Solutions (http://www.csun.edu/sites/default/files/ALS-‐resolution.pdf) – Sales stated that Faculty Senate approved the resolution regarding affordable learning solutions. c. Potential Speaker for Remaining ATC Meetings – Sales stated that he would like to invite Laurie Borchard to the May meeting to conclude the committee’s discussion this academic year on Affordable Learning Solutions. In addition, ATC will invite a Follett representative to the April meeting to conduct a demonstration and discuss the benefits of using the Faculty Discover tool. 5. VP/CIO’s Report a. Learning Platform System (http://csulps.com/2016/02/26/rfp-‐timeline/) – Zell shared the Learning Platforms and Services Taskforce process overview document, noting that that the campus committee will evaluate vendors during the week of April 25th in the Oviatt 30 meeting room. The demos are open to the campus community. b. AppJam 2016 (http://www.csun.edu/it/appjam) – Baker stated that AppJam 2016 kickoff event took place on Thursday, April 3, 2016. This year, over 50 teams have signed up with over 150 students participating. Baker invited all to attend the AppJam Showcase and Awards Ceremony on Wednesday, April 30, 2016 at 4:00 p.m. at the USU, Northridge Center. Sales shared information about the new CSUN Bullring competition in the David Nazarian College of Business and Economics, (http://www.csunbullring.com/). This is a student Shark Tank meets Matadors venture competition. 6. c. Curriculum App Development – Zell shared that three CSUN faculties have created apps which are available in the Apple App Store for download at no cost. Ray Hong created the Nematode Classification app which helps students identify the nematodes living inside beetles. Jeanne Robertson created the Tree of Life: Explore which helps students learn about the evolutionary relationship among all living organisms. Cindy Malone created the Elite Genet Team app which was developed for upper division biology students who are studying advance concepts in genetic inheritance. Discussion Topics a. Biology Approach to ALS – (Mary Pat Stein and Paul Wilson) Stein shared that she is part of the myCSUNtablet initiative in the Biology department. Almost all faculty are using tablets in the biology classroom. Tablets are presently being used for BIOL 106L and BIOL 107L and for the mid-‐level courses BIOL 322, BIOL 360 and BIOL 380 courses. BIOL 107L has been awarded funding to create a new eTextbook. Stein stated that this is a team effort. Wilson provided a demonstration of the eTextbook he created for the BIOL 106L titled “Laboratories on Biodiversity.” This is a new iBook available for students to download. It is available from the course Moodle page or at Before this iteration, the old textbook provided no color, at a cost of $50, and students had to buy a separate atlas, at an additional cost of $50. Students now save $100, which can be used towards the purchase of a tablet. The book offers new interactive ways for students to learn. The eTexts highlights chapter objectives, focus points, vocabulary, videos, and it allows students to take assessment tests and put together flashcards. Students can also submit photographs of plant organisms throughout campus. (http://www.csun.edu/~hcbio028/to_download.html) 7. Department/Colleagues Issues a. Turner shared that Associated Students is working in conjunction with Advancement’s Marketing and Communication team on a project to reorganize student resources, heath services, and study rooms. The end goal is to add a tile to the CSUN Mobile App by the end of the spring semester. b. Uma asked how faculty learn about Zoom. Zell shared that the Faculty Technology Center team has provided demos to the International advising committee, EOP and at some college department meetings. Perez is communicating with the approximately 100 faculty who are currently using Collaborate; he will help them transition to Zoom by the end of the semester. Zell added that the Sundial is considering using Zoom for a social experiment around online dating. Fahmie shared that the Department of Psychology is using Zoom to conduct program applicant interviews, noting that Zoom provides a more efficient way to conduct interviews and schedule conferences than Skype. 8.
