NEW EVENT SERIES:
The Good Food Gatherings
We are excited to announce an
action-oriented event series for
this spring and summer! We will be
hosting a series of four Good Food
Gatherings to bring together religious
communities and others who are
working toward a just, healthy and
trustworthy food system. The gatherings will be loosely organized around
the four sections of our Good Food
Toolkit: Eating Well, Teaching Well,
Donating Well, and Acting Well. Each
gathering will feature at least one
invited speaker and conclude with a
facilitated discussion about meaningful action steps to take, both as
individuals and as congregations and
communities.
Our first Good Food Gathering will be
held on Thursday, April 10, from 7 – 9
p.m. at St. Luke Evangelical Lutheran
Church (7001 Harford Rd., Baltimore,
MD 21234). The theme is “Eating
Well: How can we make ‘good food’
choices that nourish our bodies, our
communities, and our planet?” Dr.

2013 BFFP Garden Successes
In 2013, the Baltimore Food and Faith
Project sponsored 16 Faith Community Gardens. Together, the gardens
grew more than 3,200 pounds of
produce, the highest yield in the history of the Baltimore Food and Faith
Garden Grants. Much of the produce
was given away to food banks, soup
kitchens, and congregational members. The garden grant recipients
accumulated some 3,340 volunteer
hours worth $76,987 (according to
a volunteeringinamerica.org assessment of the value of volunteer time
in Maryland in 2012). They also
received donations (financial and
material) from other organizations
valued at $4,000. The Baltimore
Food and Faith Project would like to
congratulate all of the past garden

Food for Thought: Check Out BFFP Blog Post, JHSPH Magazine
article
To communicate with Baltimore-area faith communities
more regularly and to stimulate conversation about the
intersection of faith and food, BFFP has started periodical
blogging within CLF’s Livable Future blog. The first blog,
“Religion, Making A Difference, and Food,” was published
on Feb. 19.
BFFP was also recently highlighted in the Johns Hopkins
Public Health magazine’s 2014 Special Issue on Food. The
article, “Planting Health: With Garden Projects: Public
Health Rekindles Humanity’s Need for Seed”, features stories from several of our garden grant recipients.
