Community Standards and Student Advocacy ~Student Conduct Committee (SCC) Hearing~ SCC Hearing: A formal conversation between a student (respondent/accused) and the Committee (3 – 7 student, faculty, and/or administrative representatives) where the violation is initially discussed. The purpose of the hearing is to determine what transpired during the incident and whether the code of conduct was violated and if so by whom. Preparing for your hearing~ All accused students will receive notification of the date of the incident as well as the date, time, and location of the hearing. Students should be prepared to answer questions regarding events associated with date of the incident reported. All accused students that wish to have witnesses speak about what happened and/or speak to their character must inform Community Standards and Student Advocacy at least seventy-two (72) business hours prior to their scheduled hearing. Only the committee, approved witnesses/advisors, reporters, and the university convener are allowed to attend. Failing to attend the hearing results in the automatic processing of the conduct process/decision. Further, if the student is found responsible, they forfeit their right to appeal the decision of responsibility. ** During the hearing~ All hearings are recorded. The hearing chair will officially inform the student of allegations, the potential misconduct, and the hearing process. The student presents their side. At the conclusion of the hearing, the university convener will inform student(s) of the next steps to follow. After the hearing~ A decision letter is sent to your student GSU email, which includes an outline of any charge(s), sanction(s), and appeal process. If no disciplinary action is taken, a letter is still sent communicating that no action was taken.
