State and/or Federal Law Violation and the University’s Student Conduct Process
Governors State’s disciplinary actions may be brought up against a student charged with conduct
that possibly violates both criminal law and the Student Conduct (Policy 4). Disciplinary
measures under the Community Standards Handbook – Student Conduct (Policy 4) may be
carried out prior to, concurrently with, or after civil or criminal proceedings off campus at the
discretion of the Director of Student Community Standards. Resolves made or sanctions imposed
under the Student Conduct (Policy 4) shall not be subject to change because criminal charges
arising out of the same facts and giving rise to violation of University rules were dismissed,
reduced, or resolved in favor of or against the criminal law defendant.
