2016 MSW Admissions Welcome Letter

October 1, 2015
Dear Prospective Student,
Thank you for your interest in our Master of Social Work (M.S.W.) Program at Governors State
University. Our Social Work Programs are fully accredited by the Council on Social Work Education
CSWE, our accrediting body. We are committed to providing excellent, innovative and contextually based
preparation for advanced social work professionals. Graduates of our social work programs are highly
skilled professionals serving the growing social and economic needs of vulnerable and marginalized
families, their children and communities as well as the organizations that serve these communities.
Graduates of our M.S.W. Program practice social work grounded in a critical social justice ethic. We offer
a Master of Social Work in three concentrations or Specializations: Practice with Children and Families;
Practice in Schools and Holistic and Wellness Practice.
The Governors State University Master of Social Work Program prepares advanced social work
professionals to serve the needs of those at greatest risk. While we offer both a full-time and part-time
study program options, we deliver courses primarily in an evening format more accessible to those
employed full-time and seeking advanced professional credentials. If within seven years prior to
admission to our M.S.W. program you have earned a baccalaureate degree from a CSWE accredited
program in social work, you may apply to our Advanced Standing program. Admission to our M.S.W.
program takes place in the Fall Semester for all students.
