Attached is Washington Office (WO) Information Bulletin No. 2003-070, dated March 11, 2003, requesting
nominations for the 2003 Service to America Medals, or “Sammies” awards program which honors federal employees
who have made a significant contribution to our country.
Please ensure that your employees receive a copy of this correspondence. We encourage submission of nominations
for this award. Award criteria and categories are provided in the attachment, and the format for submission is online at
www.govexec.com/pps. Nominations, including supporting documentation should be submitted to Alina Malray,
Branch of Human Resources, OR-953 by April 14, 2003.
Districts with Unions are reminded to notify their unions of this IB and satisfy any bargaining obligations before
implementation. Your servicing Human Resources Office or Labor Relations Specialist can provide you assistance in
this matter.

This Bulletin forwards information on the 2003 Service to America Medals, or “SAMMIES,” awards program which
honors federal employees who have made a significant contribution to our country.
The awardees will be honored at a ceremony on October 15, 2003, in Washington, DC, and profiled in Government
Executive, National Journal, and The Atlantic Monthly magazines. In addition, monetary prizes are associated with the
awards.
Award categories are provided in the attachment, and the format for submission is online at www.govexec.com/pps.
Nominations should be submitted to the Acting Assistant Director, Human Resources Management, Attention: Louise
Harris, Executive Initiatives Group (WO-710), 1849 C Street, N.W., Mail Stop 3023, Washington, DC 20240, by April
22, 2003. Following concurrence by the Bureau Director and Assistant Secretary, nominations will be entered on line.
