Subject:
FY 2004 Northwest Forest Plan Implementation Monitoring Program
REPLY DUE: 6/15/03
Information is requested on projects implemented within the Northwest Forest Plan (NWFP) area since 1994 (see
attachment 1). This information will be used to randomly select two projects and the two watersheds containing the
projects for monitoring by each of the Provincial Advisory Committees (PACs).
The FY 2004 program will continue the focus on monitoring "Other" projects such as prescribed fire, grazing, mining,
recreation, restoration and road decommissioning. This year’s program will provide a good opportunity to further
build our sample size and understanding of these important project categories which to date have been under sampled.
We are asking for this information now, in response to your request that projects be selected prior to the fiscal year in
which they are to be monitored, to allow for adequate planning and budgeting lead times. This will also allow you
ample time to collect the data.
This proposal was discussed at the February 12-13, 2003 Provincial Implementation Monitoring Team (PIMT) leaders’
workshop. We are asking that the PIMT Leader be the provincial focal point for gathering and providing the data call
information (see attached list B). It is imperative that all Forests and BLM Districts provide the requested information
to their respective PIMT leader in order for one coordinated response to be received from each province.
If your unit is selected for monitoring, we ask that every effort be made to complete this task. This is necessary in
order to maintain the success and validity of this important program.

If the PIMT leads have any questions concerning this year’s program, or the information data request enclosed, please
contact Dave Baker, [email protected], at 541-464-3223, or Gery Ferguson, [email protected], at 541-383
5538. Please complete the attached table and send to Dave Baker by 6/15/2003. Please share this information with
your PACs.

(please note that there are several tables to fill in, 1 per page, add rows to tables when necessary)
These project categories are in priority order. Please provide your entire pool of prescribed fire projects first. If you have two or more
prescribed fire projects, then you only need to fill in the first table (i.e. you do not need to proceed further). If you do not have any
prescribed fire projects then proceed to the next category (grazing). Continue to fill in the tables until you have a pool of at least two
projects. Once a sufficient pool has been identified you do not have to complete the remaining tables.
If you provided this information for the FY2003 data call, you only need to update the tables with projects completed since the tables were
filled in or for projects planned to be completed by May 2004.

Criteria for inclusion in table below
Rely on existing databases to derive projects, BLM has GABS and FS has INFRA/GIS,
monitoring would be done on a grazing allotment and /or Allotment Management Plan on a ranger district or resource area.
Enter data by 5th field watershed, if overlaps into more than one, pick watershed with majority of grazing
if you have no grazing within your BLM District or NF Forest within the province, please say “none” in table below and proceed to the
mining form.
