South Junction Campground Railroad Crossing

Stay Off—Stay Alive
DO NOT WALK THE TRACKS!
Burlington Northern—Santa Fe Railroad (BNSF) does not
provide a legal railroad crossing at South Junction.
Walking on (up or down) the tracks or within the 4-foot
right-of-way on either side of the tracks
is considered criminal trespassing in the first degree and
violators can be cited.
Trains cannot stop quickly! A 100-car freight train traveling
at 55 miles per hour needs more than a mile to stop. When
pedestrians trespass onto railroad right-of-way, they are
putting themselves and the train crews in danger.
BLM is working with BNSF to provide a safe and legal
crossing. Until that time, crossing across the tracks from
South Junction Campground to the Lower Deschutes River
is at your own risk.
Do not use the tracks to move up or down the river.
For more information, contact the Prineville BLM at
(541) 416-6700.
