Condition of Animals (Typical Henneke Body Condition Score): Average BCS of 3-4 with
several older horses in the 2 range. None of the captured horses showed symptoms of
dehydration or sickness due to lack of water. Captured foals were immediately separated
and hand watered with buckets to ensure they were hydrated before being shipped to
Burns Corrals and paired back up with mares.

General Terrain and Weather: Gently rolling hills with rimrock outcrops and sagebrush
steppe vegetation. Weather was sunny with a high around 75 F.
General Information:
Helicopter operations ended at approximately 1100. All captured horses were transported
to Burns Corral Facility by 1630 on 8/29/12. Horses brought to the Burns Corral Facility
have been monitored for water intake and symptoms of water intox. No complications
have been identified.
The Paisley Desert Emergency gather is now complete. A total of 193 horses (of the
targeted 200 horses) were gathered and removed from the HMA. Horses were removed
from areas with very poor water and areas where water hauling had occurred. BLM
estimates there are approximately 100 horses remaining in the HMA following the gather.
These remaining horses were observed ranging around two waterholes within the HMA.
BLM will continue to monitor water sources within the HMA and continue to haul water
into the HMA on an as needed basis until precipitation occurs.
