Dear Friends and Family,
We look forward to welcoming you
back to GSU – a campus that is
dynamic and alive with activity.
Students who commute make the
university their second home.
And today, many GSU students live
in Prairie Place, a true living/
learning community, with three
full-time faculty members available
to make sure that those midnight conversations on the meaning of life
really happen. Freshmen, transfers and graduate students live in suites
and apartments, organized intellectually into three themes: civic
engagement, global citizenship, and sustainability.
Those three themes structure GSU’s freshman program. Last year’s
freshmen, the Class of 2018, now make up our first sophomore
class. For the first time in GSU history, we have it all—a four-year
undergraduate program and graduate education at the master’s and
doctoral level. If you count our Family Development Center, our
students range from birth to longevity.
Friends and Family Weekend is designed to be enjoyable for all. Please
join me on Saturday morning for the Jazz Brunch with the President.
I’m looking forward to hearing your comments and to responding to
your questions.
Reconnect with former classmates and learn what’s new at GSU at the
Generation Meet and Greet Social. We can’t wait to welcome you back
to campus.
See you soon,
Elaine P. Maimon, Ph.D.

transFORMATION: Photographic Portraits of Transgender Men
by Lorenzo Triburgo - GSU Visual Art Gallery
“For this project I created oil-painted landscapes using instructions
from Bob Ross’ ‘The Joy of Painting.’ The backdrops call attention
to the artist’s hand and set the stage for nature as fabrication while
examining the connections between gender and photography as sites
of misplaced veracity. I invite the viewer to question these constructs
while simultaneously depicting a sincere heroism.”
- Lorenzo Triburgo
