What we can all do toward sustainability efforts at
Foothill-De Anza and beyond
1. Living Democracy
• Problem-solving in your everyday life at work, school, home, community
• Policy, voting with your dollars, environmental justice
2. Sustainability Education
• Take an environmental studies (ES) class
• Read on sustainability (see list)
• Integrate sustainability education into your curriculum
• Help to make sustainability/ES a G.E. requirement
3. Help to preserve natural spaces in your community
4. Get Involved
• Environmental Studies (ES)
• College Environmental Advisory Group (CEAG)
• Sustainability Management Plan (SMP)
• Academic Senate issues on sustainability
• Events on campus (i.e., with ICCE and ES on Focus the Nation, etc.)
5. Work on campus toward green building, transportation, food, and landscape
issues — get students involved
6. Waste less (products, food)
7. Buy locally (organic fresh food, etc.)
8. Plan trips to decrease carbon emissions
9. Four R’s: Reject, Reduce, Reuse, Recycle
10. Think seven generations ahead (Iroquois Confederacy philosophy)
