Federal Work-Study Employee Job Obligations For Students You have been awarded Federal Work-Study and will be placed in a position according to your preference and/or experience. It is our hope that you will enjoy your work and gain valuable job experiences. As a student worker, some of your duties may include working with students’ confidential files, records and/or grades. THE FAMILY EDUCATIONAL RIGHTS AND PRIVACY ACT protects students’ files. This means that any information you have access to cannot be discussed or disclosed with any individuals outside the office you work for. If you release information without authorization, disciplinary action will be taken against you, which could result in dismissal from your job. GUIDELINES AND RESPONSIBILITIES 1. Be at work before your scheduled time. Let your supervisor know if you are going to be late. Explain any delays to your supervisor. 2. Request prior approval from your supervisor if you need to take time off from work. If you are unable to come into work unexpectedly, contact your supervisor immediately so your supervisor can make arrangements to have your work completed by another employee that day. If you are unable to talk to your supervisor, make sure to leave a voicemail or email and include in your message: why you will be absent, the length of time you expect to be absent, and a number where you can be contacted. If you become unexpectedly absent for consecutive days, contact your supervisor each of those days. Remember, excessive absences or tardiness is cause for dismissal. 3. During scheduled work hours, the following rules exist: a. No personal phone calls – including cellular phones. b. No personal web surfing. c. No computer games. d. No friends visiting. e. No eating. f. Dress appropriately for the work area. 4. It is your responsibility to maintain accurate timesheets and to turn them in to your supervisor as scheduled to ensure you are paid in a timely manner. Make sure you do not exceed your weekly hours designated by your supervisor. 5. Every task is important whether or not it seems small or routine. Teamwork and selfdiscipline are essential elements. Be efficient and learn as much as you can about all duties, responsibilities and procedures related to your position. Your Work-Study supervisor can be a good reference when applying for future jobs. 6. Take pride in your work. Show initiative and think of new ways to do different tasks to share with your supervisor. 7. At the end of your Work-Study assignment, your supervisor will complete an evaluation of your work. This evaluation is a part of your permanent Work-Study file. It will cover such items as: attitude toward your job, quality of work performed, relationships with staff and fellow students, dependability, attendance, and an overall evaluation as an employee. 8. To request a job reassignment, a NOTIFICATION OF TERMINATION OF WORK-STUDY ASSIGNMENT must be completed and signed by your supervisor and returned to the Financial Aid Work-Study Coordinator. Reassignments are not encouraged. They are made when personnel or performance problems arise which cannot be resolved. I have read and I understand my responsibilities in accepting a Work-Study position. I further understand that in the event I have been dismissed from a Work-Study assignment due to performance issues, my Work-Study employment and/or my Work-Study award can be terminated.
