GENERAL COURSE INFORMATION HISTORY 108 and HISTORY 109
ONLINE
History 108 and History 109 Online
We read approximately 1-2 chapters of the text each week in History 108 and History
109. There is a graded weekly discussion board where you comment on the assigned
work. You are required to use formal writing in all communication and assignments. I
recommend completing English 120 with a C or higher before you take these courses. All
assigned work is asynchronous. You will not have a set time to log in to the course;
however in order to be successful you must log onto the course often to participate in
class work. There are deadlines for assignments on weekends. Test 4 during finals week
has a Thursday deadline.
Online courses can be more difficult than “face to face” classes as an online course
requires active learning. In face to face classes the student can “disengage” at times, sit
“passively” and allow the instructor to do the work. In this online class you are
responsible for keeping current in the reading and for showing your understanding by
posting to the discussion boards using formal writing. If you don’t have the time to log on
to our online classroom often to read the announcements, messages, and discussion
board posts as well as fulfill the reading and homework, this course is not for you. Since
students read 1-2 chapters of the text per week and are graded on weekly discussion
board posts it is strongly recommended that one be able to read and write English on the
college level. If you do not have these abilities, this course is not an appropriate one for
you at this time.
