GETTING STARTED IN HISTORY 108 AND HISTORY 109
“Orientation” Information--Follow these steps if you are already officially
enrolled in History 108 or History 109 (find History 109 information on page 2 of
this document)
Orientation-Print this!! History 108
1)Buy the textbook and immediately begin reading:
Alan Brinkley, American History, 13th edition, Vol. 1
History 108 requires Volume I of the textbook. You can purchase a used
text but it must be the 13th edition. ISBN: 978-0-07-723855-1
Week 1 assignments History 108:
a. Log on to Blackboard. You should be able to enter the Blackboard classroom
on Sunday night the evening before classes begin. You must log on Monday,
the first day of class, as your log on registers your attendance. Go to
https://gcccd.blackboard.com/
Your User Name is your firstname.lastname lower case; This is the same
exact User Name that you use to log on to Web Advisor to enroll. Your
password is your birth date 6 digits (mmddyy)
Select History 108 Early American History.

The college help desk can help you as well at 619-660-4395 during regular
business hours.
b. Make sure your email address in WebAdvisor is your current email. Your
Blackboard account will be linked your email account. I need your current email
for communications for the class.
c. Log on to Blackboard and familiarize yourself with our Blackboard classroom.
Post any questions to the Non-Graded discussion board for Week 1. Logging on
the Blackboard records your attendance. You will be dropped if you do not log on
to Blackboard on Monday. There are assignments due the first week of the course.

d. Look at the Course Menu on the left side of the course opening page. Click on
the syllabus link to access the syllabus. Download a copy to your computer.
Print a copy of the syllabus. Read it carefully and post any questions to the
Non-Graded Discussion Board for Week 1.
e. Orientation information is in the left hand Course Menu “Start HereOrientation” link.
e. Week 1 Homework assignments History 108 due at the end of Week 1:
Syllabus quiz and a chapter quiz due Sunday at the end of Week 1.
You are required to discuss the material in Chapters 15 for Week #1’s Graded
Discussion board due Sunday.
Find the assignments for each week on the Assignments button on Course
Menu on the left side of the opening page in Blackboard. Details are also in the
syllabus. Assignments are listed for each week of the course.

Week 1 assignments History 109:
a. Log on to Blackboard. You should be able to enter the Blackboard
classroom on Sunday evening the night before the class begins. You
must log on by Monday the first day of the semester as your log on
registers your attendance. If you do not log on to the Bb classroom I
will drop you as a “no show”.

Select History 109 Modern American History.
