by the end of fall term prior to fall enrollment at UC San Diego.
∗ Complete all UC San Diego major preparation available at your local partner
community college and declare that major at the time of completing the UC
San Diego admissions application.

Preparation
• One year of General Chemistry
• One year of Calculus
• Calculus-based physics courses in mechanics and wave motion
• Courses equivalent to Berkeley’s English R1A (and R1B for Chemistry
major)
• Additional coursework in calculus-based physics, chemistry, and math are
strongly encouraged
Note: IGETC certification will satisfy the Reading & Composition requirement
for all majors, but additional coursework may be necessary to completely
satisfy major prerequisites for some majors

Preparation
• Prerequisite courses for the major - completion of all required core
coursework, including the equivalent of Berkeley’s English R1A & R1B
(Reading & Composition) as listed on assist.org
Note:
• IGETC is not acceptable
• Only applicants who have completed 100% of the required major
courses by the end of the Spring term will be considered for admission
• Strong personal statement indicating interest in major and
demonstrated skills and characteristics

Preparation
• All available articulated, lower division core courses for the selected
major must be completed before enrollment at Cal
• Articulation is available at 20 community colleges for the core courses:
– Cerritos, Chabot, City College of San Francisco, College of Marin, College
of San Mateo, Consumnes River, De Anza, Diablo Valley, East Los
Angeles, Gavilan, Laney, Mira Costa, Modesto, Mt. San Antonio, Orange
Coast, Pasadena City, Saddleback, San Diego Mesa, San Joaquin Delta,
Santa Rosa, and West Valley
Note: IGETC will be accepted for students applying Fall 2012 and beyond

Preparation
• Prerequisite coursework must not be over 5 years old and must be
completed with a letter grade
• NEW requirements on ASSIST
– 7 course breadth requirement not required for admission purposes
– Additional Writing/Language course no longer required
– 2 semesters of Calculus now required
• Coursework must be completed by the end of the Spring term
prior to enrollment

Preparation
• All majors require completion of coursework equivalent to Berkeley’s English
R1A & R1B, and science preparation for the intended major
– Lack of completion of all science requirements is generally the most
common reason for non-admission selection
• IGETC certification will satisfy the Reading & Composition
requirement and in some cases the humanities/social sciences
breadth requirements. Please check ASSIST
• If course articulation is not established, consult with a CNR staff
adviser
