WS - X6582 - 2PA DIMM Replacement Procedure
This chapter describes the step-by-step procedure for the DIMM replacement for WS - X6582 - PA units.
Warning
Only trained and qualified personnel should be allowed to install, replace, or service this equipment.
Caution
Only memory approved by Cisco is supported. Do not attempt to install other devices or DIMMs, which
are not approved by Cisco, in the DIMM sockets.
Caution
DIMMs are ESD-sensitive components and can be damaged due to mishandling. Ensure that they are
handled with care during installation and removal.
Step-by-Step Procedure
To remove a DIMM and install a new DIMM for Cisco 7600 Series WS - X658 - 2PA units, follow these

Removing DIMM from DIMM Slot
Handle the DIMM only along the edges. Do not touch the memory modules, pins, or traces (metal fingers
along the connector edge), to avoid damage.
Step 5
Pull the retaining clips holding the DIMM away with your thumb. See A in Figure 5-5.
Step 6
When both ends of the DIMM are released from the socket, grasp the ends of the DIMM with your thumb
and forefinger, and pull it completely out of the socket. See Figure 5-4 and A in Figure 5-5. Then, in
compliance with electronic waste laws, dispose the DIMM.
Step 7
Install the replacement DIMM by holding the component-side facing up, with the connector edge (the
metal fingers) away from you. Keep the sides of the DIMM between your thumb and index finger. See
Figure 5-7 and B in Figure 5-5.

Caution
It is normal to feel some resistance when installing a DIMM. Do not use excessive force or touch the
surface components, to avoid damage.
Step 8
Tilt the DIMM at a 30 degree angle to the socket, and then insert the connector edge of the DIMM into
the socket. Verify that the notches on the DIMM are properly aligned with the ones on the connector
before fully inserting the DIMM.
Step 9
Press down on the DIMM until the retaining clips lock the DIMM in place. See Figure 5-8.
Step 10
Check the two alignment notches, and ensure that the clips are visible. If necessary, remove and reset
the DIMM. See B in Figure 5-5.
