Introducing just a few of the teaching & learning resources provided to
colleagues attending WOW! Business International...
An activity that can be used
to illustrate the concept of
opportunity cost as well as
developing the all-important
skill of evaluation. Students are
presented with a number of tough
real life choices to make. Which
option will they choose and why?
A challenging card game
used to teach profit and loss
accounts. Students, working in
groups need to piece together
the mystery and work out if the
business makes a profit or loss
An engaging, kinaesthetic activity
where students take on the role of
production operatives in a factory
making bookmarks. Can they work
as a team and re-design their job
roles to make the whole process
more efficient?
A challenging ranking activity
with a twist. Students are
presented with 10 business
decisions and they need to rank
them in order (most ethical to
least ethical). Once they have
justified their reasoning they
then need to play the role of
Devil’s advocate and argue
why the least ethical decision is
morally sound
A kinaesthetic group activity for
teaching organisational structures.
Each student represents a member
of the Smith family and need
to organise themselves in a
‘human’ family tree. The activity is
developed further to incorporate
organisational structures
Stakeholder Island is a highly
visual activity which allows
students to investigate by
themselves different businesses
and to consider what groups
in society would be directly/
indirectly impacted by that
business being in existence.
Talking Twosomes is a whole
class activity that is excellent
for measuring progress within
a business studies lesson. It can
be used as a plenary activity at
the end of the lesson or as a mini
plenary during the lesson. Talking
Twosomes can also be used at the
start of a lesson to re-cap on prior
learning.
A superb structured activity
for students to explore the
challenges of workforce
planning! Working in pairs,
students have around 30
minutes

Hexagonal Analysis is a powerful
activity that develops a number of
higher order skills. Using hexagons
allows students to demonstrate
how certain elements within a
business studies topic relate to
each other and therefore show
connections between them
developing (amongst others) the
higher order skill of analysis.
This interactive activity helps
improve evaluation skills
through providing a structured
use of ‘connective’ words and
phrases that can be applied to
a question.
This activity encourages students
to think about whether a business
should accept a non-standard
order. This exercise builds on
skills of application, draws on
knowledge of capacity utilisation
and encourages students to use
financial calculations to support
their decisions.
A bellwork activity used for
when students first enter the
class and involves students
being presented with a number
of business studies key words
that have been ‘chopped’ into 2
or 3 sections. Can also be used
in several ways and is also a
useful teaching and learning
strategy to help embed literacy
into business lessons.
A fun and engaging activity that
can be used to introduce the topic
of leadership and management as
well as the wider topic of human
resources. Students are given a
list of scenarios and provided with
some good and bad examples of
what managers do/ may do in
order to get the best out of their
employees.
This activity aims to get
students thinking about how
businesses make location
decisions. The activity touches
upon issues such as bulk
increasing products and fixed
and variable costs, making it
a suitable for both AS and A2
students. The activity can also
be easily adapted for GCSE.
