The Academic Senate expresses its official positions only through votes noted under “Action.” CALL TO ORDER Senate Vice President Pat Setzer called the meeting to order at 2:05 p.m. I. APPROVAL OF MINUTES M/S/P (Zambelli/Lloyd) to approve the minutes of the meeting of April 11, 2002. II. PRESIDENT’S REPORT A. Proposed GCCCD 2002-2004 Legislative Program Dana Quittner, District Director of Intergovernmental Relations, Economic Development and Public Information, provided an overview of the District’s Legislative Strategy and explained the revisions and priorities in four categories (Access, Funding, Workforce and Economic Development, Administrative Roadblocks), plus related Federal issues. III. ACTION A. Emeritus Review Committee M/S/P (Utgaard/Santana) to elect Paul Boatner, Charles Charter, Carol Lloyd, and Anthony Zambelli as members of the Emeritus Review Committee. Motion passed unanimously. B. Board Policy 4250 M/S/P (Zambelli/Utgaard) to endorse the wording recommended by the Student Success Committee for the sections of Board Policy 4250 that pertain to Disqualification and Readmission. Chapter 5 of the Board Policy Manual M/S/P (Lloyd/Zambelli) to approve Chapter 5 of the Board Policy Manual, including an amended version of BP 5010. Motion passed unanimously. Instructional Technology Council – Proposed Council/Committee Revisions Pat Setzer presented the changes being proposed to the Instructional Technology Council. Questions and discussion by the senators revealed numerous concerns about the proposed changes and the need for further analysis and revision of the charge, chairs, and composition of this council and committees; including whether the overall body should be a council with committees or a committee with subcommittees. V. ADDITIONAL REPORTS A. Vice President’s Report None B. United Faculty Report Ezequiel Cárdenas announced vacancies on the UF Steering Committee and the opportunity for interested faculty to serve on that committee. ADJOURNMENT Senate Vice President Pat Setzer adjourned the meeting at 3:45 p.m. Reported by Nancy Perry 2 Approved 5/09/02 Wording approved by Cuyamaca College Academic Senate 4/25/02 STUDENT SUCCESS COMMITTEE RECOMMENDATION BOARD POLICY 4250 DISQUALIFICATION Any student disqualified from a college within the Grossmont-Cuyamaca Community College District may not attend any college within the District during the next consecutive semester. The student may, however, attend summer intersession.. 1. Academic Disqualification Any student on academic probation whose semester grade point average falls below a 2.0 shall be academically disqualified. Any student on academic probation whose semester grade point average equals or exceeds 2.0 but whose cumulative grade point average for all units attempted remains below 2.0 shall be continued on probation. 2. Lack-of-Progress Disqualification Any student who is on lack-of-progress probation and whose semester work indicates 50 percent or more units of “W” or “I” or “NC” will be disqualified. Any student on lack-of-progress probation whose semester work indicates fewer than 50 percent units of “W” “I” or “NC” but whose cumulative records show 50 percent or more units of “W” “I” or “NC” will be continued on lack-of-progress probation. READMISSION Any student disqualified may petition for readmission. Petition must be initiated at college in which disqualification occurred. 3 Approved 5/09/02 Wording approved by Cuyamaca College Academic Senate 4/25/02 BP 5010 Admissions Reference: Education Code Section 76000; Labor Code Section 3077 Board Policies 2410, 2510 The Board shall provide equal access to its services, classes, and programs to every qualified person without regard to race, religion, color, national origin, sex, disability, medical condition, age, status as a Vietnam-era veteran, marital status, sexual orientation, or economic status in admission practices or participation in any college activities. To qualify for admission, a student must be categorized as one of the following: 1. A high school graduate or equivalent. 2. A nongraduate of high school who is eighteen years of age or over and can benefit from the college’s educational program. 3. A transfer student from another institution. 4. A high school student who has completed the tenth grade and is admitted under special conditions and in compliance with the Education Code. Additional assessment and completion of special forms may be required for enrollment in certain District programs. Students shall be classified at the time of registration as a resident or non-resident student. Resident classification shall be in accordance with California Code of Regulations and shall be published in each college’s catalog. Continuing students shall register in accordance with a priority system based on total units completed pleted and Matriculation status. New and readmitted students will be assigned a registration time based on the chronological order in which applications are received. Opportunity for priority registration will be provided for students in the EOPS and DSPS programs, and other programs specified in procedures to be developed by the Chancellor.
