think you most certainly have made
the right choice in deciding to enroll

as you have seen the banners all over
campus—“Dare to Complete.” We

your reason for coming to the college.
If you want to take a single class for
your own enrichment, to earn your
AA or AS degree, or to transfer to a
four-year institution, all of us are ready
to help you achieve that goal. Many
students, upon discovering one of our
valuable services here on campus have
commented, “I wish I would have
known about that sooner.” Well, we
feel the same way, and I encourage

and guidance in your higher education
pursuits. We are here to help!
The selection of courses at Cuyamaca
College remains strong despite the
worst financial times that California
higher education has ever seen. While
we are confident that the situation will
improve over the next couple of years,
we acknowledge that it has become
more difficult for you to get the full
complement of classes needed to reach
your goals. But please, persevere and
be daring! Your higher education is the
key to your future success and we at
Cuyamaca College are proud to have a
part in that success.
I encourage you to involve yourself in

IMPORTANT INFORMATION ABOUT RECENT CHANGES
As you may know, public higher education in California is facing
drastic budget reductions for the third consecutive year. Even though
we have struggled through three years of drastic budget cuts,
the Grossmont-Cuyamaca Community College District has been
committed to meeting the educational needs of our students.
Beginning summer 2012 there will be multiple changes that will
affect you. These changes are being implemented at all California
Community Colleges. Please be sure to read each section to learn
how they will impact your studies here at Grossmont and Cuyamaca
College.

STUDENT WITHDRAWAL & GRADE RESPONSIBILITY
You are held responsible for all classes in which you register. If
you decide to withdraw from a class(es), it is your responsibility to
drop using WebAdvisor or to obtain an Add/Drop Card from the
Admissions and Records Office, complete the card, and submit it to
the Admissions and Records Office. The official date of withdrawal is
the date you drop your class(es) using WebAdvisor or when an Add/
Drop Card is submitted. If this is not done, you may receive a grade of
“F.” If you withdraw from a semester-length class(es) by the end of the
second week, the class(es) will not appear on your transcript. If you
withdraw from a semester-length class(es) between the third and twelfth
week, a grade of “W” is issued. If you are still enrolled in a semesterlength class(es) past the end of the twelfth week, you will receive a
grade other than a “W.” For classes which are scheduled for eight
weeks, classes will not appear on the transcript for classes dropped
during the first week and a “W” may be awarded only for withdrawals for
weeks 2 through 6. (Deadline dates are listed on the calendar above.)
For other short-term classes contact the Admissions and Records Office for date and please visit www.cuyamaca.edu/admissions/deadlines.asp

WITHDRAWALS AND REPAYMENT
OF FINANCIAL AID FUNDS
NEED MONEY FOR COLLEGE?
Effective July 1, 2000, students receiving federal financial
aid who withdraw from all of their classes during the first
60% of a term may be required to repay a portion of the
federal grants they have received. This is because a
student must “earn” their financial aid. Financial aid is
“earned” for each day you are enrolled in the semester.
Students who stay in classes until 60% of the term is
completed will not owe anything back to the federal
government. Please note: If you fail all of your classes
in a term, you will have only earned 50% of the Pell
and/or SEOG that you received and you will be billed
for the amount you did not earn. This rule applies
even if you were enrolled in classes for the whole
term. If you are required to repay funds to the federal
government, you will be billed and will have 45 days to
repay the funds in full. You will be ineligible for any further
financial aid at any college in the United States until you
have repaid the funds in full.
