Guidelines for using WOIS

WELCOME TO WOIS- WASHINGTON OCCUPATION
INFORMATION SYSTEM
•WOIS is an online resource that can help you with your career and academic
planning.
•It allows you to take career assessments that reveal your interests, values,
skills and abilities.
•WOIS is directly linked to every school in the State of Washingtonregardless of whether it is private, public or a vocational school.
•WOIS also is a large database of occupations with specific information
about each; including current wages in Washington for most occupations
and even education programs that prepare you for specific career paths.
•First things first- In order to save any career research or test results from
the free assessments in WOIS, you will need to create a portfolio file where
you can save your work OK ~ let’s get started……
CREATING A PORTFOLIO

Go to WWW.WOIS.ORG
•
On the left side of the page
you will see a menu bar;
Click on ‘Portfolio’.

Next click on ‘Create a new
Portfolio’ in blue and follow
the directions. (see image
left)
TAKING ASSESSMENTS IN WOIS
You can take assessments that reveal your interests, skills and
abilities, values and personality type. Click on ‘Assessments’ in the
menu bar on the left to see the various free assessments in WOIS.
WOIS is directly linked to every school in the state
of Washington; regardless of whether it is private,
public, vocational, two year or 4 year and above.
You can search
schools
alphabetically or
by program.
There is no need
to ‘google’- WOIS
is like one stop
shopping! Just
click on the
school and then
click on the larger
School title in
blue at the top of
each school page.
From there you
can research
specific academic
programs.
Occupations are listed alphabetically, by Career
Cluster or by Career Path (based on your interest
test results).
Each occupation
listing gives specific
information,
including; summary
of duties, education
needed, links to
schools that offer
programs that lead to
that occupation,
current wages and
future outlook. Click
on ‘Occupations’ and
then click on one that
you are interested in
and you will see what
kind of information
each has. See the

WOIS alone or with the guidance of a
professional?
• You can navigate WOIS by yourself or with the guidance of a
professional in the Career Services Center at SCCC.
• Make an appointment and we will show you how to set up a portfolio
and give you a tour of the WOIS website.
