August 7, 2014 FACILITIES CONNECTION Facilities Services Department Weekly Update Newsletter New Look! In this issue: In the past, Facilities Management submitted a quarterly newsletter to all Facilities Services employees to highlight projects, new employees, other campus departments, etc. and after reviewing the current newsletter & the number of projects we have been taking on, FS Management has decided that it would be in the best interest of our employees to provide weekly updates. New Look! Project Updates New Hires Upcoming Projects Thank you, Facilities Management Current Project Updates Morton Storage Building Ron has received measurements and will be requesting bids to build the section walls. In the end, Facilities Services, Theatre and Golf will all have separate areas in the building. Hill Slide Mitigation The shop drawings have been approved and the contractor will be able to order necessary materials. The expected start date for this project will be in 2 weeks. Old Science Building Demolition The asbestos removal will begin on August 18th. Contracts are in the process of being approved for the actual demolition. The contractors on the this project and the Hill Slide will need to work closely together as they will be sharing space in the alley for each project. As many of you are aware, Central Stores and the Carpenter Shop have been moved out to the Campus Garage. State Fleet vehicles will continue to reside in the east Field House parking lot until the Old Science building has been removed. Circle Hall Upgrades We are pushing for a completion date of August 15th, but the project may take up to a week longer. The general contractor is working to ensure the area is ADA compliant and that the building is properly water-proofed. If you are in the area check out the progress! McFarland Air Conditioning Air conditioning will be added to 3rd floor, west end McFarland, as well as the Alumni Room. Keith’s Air Conditioning started the project on 8/8 and should be finished by the end of this week. McFarland Building Stabilization McFarland classroom 124 will be out of commission for the rest of August and into September as work on stabilizing the building begins on the 18th. We will need to do some in-house demolition (to open the walls) in preparation for the main contractor. All classes in this room have been moved to Rhoades and the Library for the duration of the project. Housing Updates Health Services has been successfully moved to the old Mythaler Guest Room, making room for the new Athletic Training program in Graichen Gym. Third floor Mythaler has also seen some big changes with the addition of the fitness room also to make room for the Athletic Training program in Graichen) as well as a new kitchenette for student use. We have also done major work to several University Housing apartments. Field House Improvements We have several projects planned for the Field House in the next couple months, including: new roof over boiler room, install back-flow valve (so the basement doesn’t flood), repairs to the main entrances (including new exterior doors), and updating to the exterior façade. New Hires! We have had several new hires/position transitions in the last few months to fill the gaps within our department due to retirements and other unforeseen vacancies.
