BLM Salem Needs Campground Hosts!
Salem, Ore--The Bureau of Land Management (BLM) Salem District has spring and summer
campground host positions available. A campground host resides in their personal recreational vehicle
(RV) at the campground they are hosting, and is responsible for:
•
Greeting guests
•
Helping guests solve problems
•
Cleaning exterior and interior facilities (particularly bathroom buildings)
•
Maintaining camp sites and restrooms
In Northwest Oregon, the BLM has openings at:
Marmot Dam Recreation Area (7.5 miles NW of State Highway 26 and Brightwood, OR; off
Marmot Road)
• One camp host or camp host couple
• Willing to live remotely at host campsite. Host should have an RV or tent suitable for long term
stay.
• Camp amenities: Potable water tank and vault toilet
• Season: May 20 - end of September (negotiable)

Alsea Falls Recreation Site: (along the South Fork Alsea River National Back Country Byway,
between the small communities of Alsea and Alpine)
• One camp host or camp host couple

term stay.

• Season: April 25th through September 26th (negotiable)

Elk Horn Valley Recreation Site: (located within the Little North Santiam Recreation Area)

Molalla Corridor (Three Bears Recreation Site):

Visitor Counting Volunteer (Salem District Office):
• This is a new position based in the Salem District Office, in Salem, Oregon but involves
extensive day or overnight travel to recreation sites throughout the Salem District to collect data
from trail and traffic counters located on recreation site roads and trails primarily using the Trafx
system.
o Involves setting up and maintaining the counters (reprogramming, changing batteries, and
trouble shooting), downloading data into a laptop or data logger, then uploading and
processing it into spreadsheets and a website to produce reports showing trends and amounts
of visitor use.
o Involves visual observations and recording visitor use to understand movement patterns,
length of stay, and group sizes to aid in site planning and operations.
o Must have proficiency with computers, software such as Microsoft Excel and Word, online
statistical databases and electronic measurement devices, have ability and willingness to
trouble shoot these systems, and have an interest in helping the BLM collect quality visitor
use information to guide our work.
• Requires a valid driver's license, ability to travel to recreation sites several hours from Salem, and
a background check to be able to use government vehicles, computer systems and facilities.
• The BLM may be able to provide an RV campsite in the Salem area if needed.

The BLM manages more than 245 million acres of public land, the most of any Federal agency. This land, known as the
National System of Public Lands, is primarily located in 12 Western states, including Alaska. The BLM also administers 700
million acres of sub-surface mineral estate throughout the nation. The BLM's mission is to manage and conserve the public
lands for the use and enjoyment of present and future generations under our mandate of multiple-use and sustained yield. In
Fiscal Year 2014, the BLM generated $5.2 billion in receipts from public lands.
