Although headcount has been falling, increased retention and persistence means that FTEs have not fallen quite so drastically. Coding of international students in 2013-14 obscures a more steady decline in state-funded FTEs versus a steady rise in contract-funded FTEs. While enrollment has fallen, Seattle Central remains very diverse. Increasingly, domestic students choose not to share their race or ethnic background (represented above in white, the “no answer” group, as distinct from multiple answers, “other”, “mixed” or other qualitative answers). “Hispanic/ Latino” is a separate question, but many students their country of origin from a country in Latin America anyway as a write-in. These are recorded as “north or south American” as distinct from indigenous populations or those who listed “Hispanic” as a race.
