Introduction
Release 2.5.11 of the Cisco CDS-IS-ISM is the initial release of Internet Streamer (IS) software for the
Integrated Services Module (ISM) line card of the Cisco ASR 9000 Series Router. It has feature parity
with the standalone CDS-IS 2.5.11 code release, with added support for the ISM line card.
Please refer to the standard CDS-IS 2.5.11 Release Notes for details on the 2.5.11 baseline release.
Cisco IOS XR software is a distributed operating system designed for continuous system operation
combined with service flexibility and high performance.
Cisco IOS XR software running on the Cisco ASR 9000 Series Router provides the following features
and benefits:
•
ISM —Adds support for ASR9000 ISM line card. This release maintains feature parity with the
standalone CDS-IS 2.5.11 code release, but is designed to run on the ASR9000 ISM line card.
•
IRB over CDS-IS — Cisco IOS XR Software Release 4.2.1 introduces support for Integrated
Routing and Bridging (IRB) on the ISM line card running the Cisco Internet Streamer Content
Delivery System (CDS-IS).
For more information about the Cisco Internet Streamer Content Delivery System (CDS-IS), refer
to the Cisco Internet Streamer CDS 2.5 Software Configuration Guide. For a complete list of Cisco
Internet Streamer Content Delivery System Command-Line Processing commands, refer to the
Cisco Internet Streamer CDS 2.5 Command Reference Guide.
For information about CDS 2.5 Alarms and Error messages, refer to the Cisco Internet Streamer
CDS 2.5 Alarms and Error Messages Guide.

System Requirements
System Requirements
This section describes the system requirements for Cisco ASR 9000 Series Router Software Release
4.2.1. The system requirements include the following:
•
Cisco ASR 9000 Series Router ISM line card must be physically present in the router
•
Cisco ASR 9000 Series Router must be running Cisco IOS XR software Release 4.2.1 or greater
Limitations
This release contains the following limitations and restrictions:
SAM Online Insertion and Removal
On a CDS-IS appliance, CDNFS drives can be removed and replaced while the system is running,
however it is currently a limitation of the CDS-IS application that one of the CDNFS drives may not be
removed. This one drive stores key metadata that is required to service client requests. This same
restriction applies to the ISM platform. The ISM platform groups the CDNFS drives into two modules
and all drives on that module must be removed at the same time. As a result, the chances of attempting
to remove a key metadata are quite high. To provide consistency between the two SAM modules, no OIR
is supported for CDS-IS on the ISM platform.
The SAM attention button is non-functional for the ISM-IS application. Similarly, any
Cisco IOS XR software command line interface commands to stop or remove the SAM are not
supported. The SAM modules should not be physically removed while the CDS-IS application is running
or data corruption may occur.
Port Channel Configuration is Not Supported
ISM is a line card plugged into the Cisco ASR 9000 Series Router. All ISM interfaces are internal to the
router, and there are no external interfaces. Therefore it will not be the case that the network cable is
unplugged. It is not beneficial to support the port channel configuration to provide the physical link
redundancy.
Maximum Bandwidth Change in CLI not in CDSM
ISM can be configured with a maximum of four streaming interfaces, and each interface can provide up
to 10G bandwidth. The maximum bandwidth for WMT, Movie-Streamer, and FMS was increased to 40G
on command line interface configuration. CDSM however is not changed to reflect this maximum
allowed bandwidth. The maximum allowed bandwidth on CDSM for the ISM is same as the CDS-IS
appliance, which is 8000000 for FMS and 2147483647 for WMT and Movie-Streamer.
Service-Engine Interface Limitations
ACL-based-routing on service-engine interfaces connecting to an ISM (Integrated Service Module) line
card is not supported in Cisco IOS XR Release 4.2.1.

Important Notes
Virtual Routing and Forwarding (VRF) on service-engine interfaces connecting to an ISM (Integrated
Service Module) line card is not supported in Cisco IOS XR Release 4.2.1.
Important Notes
Static Route Configuration for the Service-Management Interfaces
There are two types of interfaces on CDS- IS-ISM: the service-management interfaces which are used
for low-bandwidth management traffic, and the service-engine interfaces which are used for
high-bandwidth streaming and cache-fill traffic. From the Cisco IOS XR software command line
interface, users can configure default gateways for both interface types, however CDS-IS-ISM ignores
any default gateway configuration for service-management interfaces. This is required to avoid sending
streaming traffic to management destinations, since, if there are multiple default gateways, CDS-IS-ISM
uses equal-cost multipath routing to direct traffic across all default gateways equally. For management
traffic, users should add static routes to the service-management interfaces from the CDS-IS command
line interface for routing purposes. The static routes can be added either using the setup utility or the ip
route command in global configuration mode.
Device Activation Change for ISM on CDSM
On a CDSM's device activation page, the “Use SE's primary IP Address for Management
Communication” check box is checked by default. For the ISM platform, the primary interface is a
Service-Engine interface and should not be used for Management Communication. Rather, a separate
Management specific (Service-Management) interface should be used. To use a Service-Management
interface for Management Communication, do the following:
Step 1
Uncheck the “Use SE's Primary IP Address for Management Communication” check box.
Step 2
Fill in the Service-Management IP Address in the “Management Communication Address” text box.
Step 3
Fill in port number 443 in the “Management Communication Port” text box.
Default Interface MTU Value Displayed in CLI
The default interface MTU value for a CDS-IS appliance is 1500, and this value is not displayed in the
show running-config CLI command. The default MTU value for CDS-IS on ISM interfaces is 9000, and
it is explicitly shown in the show running-config CLI command. This default value is displayed on ISM
so that the customers are aware of the different MTU values (between a CDS-IS appliance and CDS-IS
on ISM). The MTU value is configured from the Cisco IOS XR software command line interface. The
CDS-IS application enforces a minimum MTU of 576, and will set this MTU size if the value configured
from XR is less than 576.
