Assessment Strategy, Version 1
Assessment Methodology
This assessment strategy has been designed for WAMITAB approved Centres, specifically for
the WAMITAB Level 1 Award in Waste and Recycling.
Learners will be assessed by Multiple Choice Question (MCQ) tests set by WAMITAB.
Learners must achieve a 70% pass mark to complete each unit. WAMITAB will issue
certificates to successful learners following receipt and ratification of Invigilation
documentation. Learners who are not successful will have a further two opportunities to retest. Learners who are not successful following re-test will need to wait 6 months prior to reregistration.
Online Testing
Approved WAMITAB Centres will be provided with access to online test sessions, hosted by
ClassMarker.
Centres will be able to run test sessions for any number of learners at one time, providing
that the requirements set out within the WAMITAB Regulations for the Conduct of Online
Multiple Choice Tests are maintained.
Further information regarding testing administration can be accessed from the WAMITAB
Secure Area.
Paper-based Testing
Approved WAMITAB Centres who are not able to access online test sessions may be offered
the opportunity to use paper-based tests. Requests to deliver paper-based tests must be
emailed to [email protected].
The Centre must provide a rationale explaining why the use of online tests is not possible.
Agreements for paper-based testing must be finalised before the Centre can book tests.
Centres who offer paper-based testing must adhere to the requirements set out within the
WAMITAB Regulations for the Conduct of Paper-Based Multiple Choice Tests.

Centre Requirements
The Qualification Handbook provides detailed information to aid Centres in the delivery and
assessment of units. All WAMITAB Centres who wish to deliver this qualification must
complete a Scheme Approval (Form 0026 Application for Scheme Approval) process prior to
being approved. Centres who are not currently Approved WAMITAB Centres must apply
using the Centre Application form.
Approved Centre and Satellite Model
WAMITAB offers the centre the opportunity to establish multiple test centres known as
‘satellite centres’ under their centre approval. The centre will be required to maintain a
central administrative process under the requirements specified in the WAMITAB Service
Level Agreement. At all times, the registered centre will take responsibility and
accountability for the quality of delivery through the numerous training and testing sites
(Satellites). Centres who wish to operate this model must make this intent clear on the
Centre Application Form, or in the case of existing WAMITAB Centres, must inform
WAMITAB in writing.
The WAMITAB Approved Centre will be responsible and accountable for ensuring that
closed-book multiple choice tests are operated in adherence to the requirements set out in
associated WAMITAB policy documentation, which may be subject to change.
Approved Centres who operate a Satellite model will be subject to a single Centre
Application fee, but must inform WAMITAB of the address of any Satellite-sites it operates.
The Approved Centre co-ordinator will act as the point of contact for usual administrative
issues, though tests will be bookable via any of the registered satellite addresses. WAMITAB
reserve the right to hold external quality assurance observation visits at the Approved
Centre, or any of its’ associated Satellite-sites.
Teaching Requirements
Legislative regulations covering qualification requirements for Further Education teachers
were revoked in September 2013. WAMITAB expects that trainers/tutors/teachers delivering
knowledge and understanding qualifications and units should have relevant competence and
experience in the subject that they are delivering and have experience of delivering
vocational learning.
For this qualification, WAMITAB has produced and is able to provide learning and teaching
materials to support delivery. As such, trainers/tutors/teachers who deliver the Level 1
Award in Waste and Recycling must be familiar with the content of the qualification and its
associated materials, but do not need to demonstrate occupational competence in waste
and recycling.
In order to approve non-occupationally competent trainers/tutors/teachers for delivery of
this qualification, WAMITAB will require evidence that they have attended tutor training for
delivery of this qualification and are fully conversant with the content of the qualification
and materials. Please contact [email protected] to arrange.

Independent Invigilation
Centres will not need to retain assessors and verifiers to deliver the assessment for this
qualification.
Centres will need to make provisions for independent invigilator(s), who have not been
involved in the training or tutoring of learners, to be present during each testing session.
Invigilators will not be required to hold any specific technical qualifications or have industry
specific knowledge or experience but must be fully conversant with the WAMITAB
Regulations for the Conduct of Multiple Choice Tests.
All learners and the Centre Invigilator will be required to adhere to the principles set out in
the WAMITAB Regulations for the Conduct of Multiple Choice Tests.

Learner Entry Requirements
These qualifications are suitable for the 14-16, 16-18, and 19+ age ranges.
There are no formal entry requirements for learners undertaking these qualifications;
however, Centres must be confident that learners have the potential and opportunity to
achieve the qualifications successfully.
Centres will need to make an initial assessment of learners prior to registration to ensure
that the level is appropriate. Centres must also identify;


Any specific training needs that the learner may have, and the support and guidance
which may be required whilst undertaking the qualification.
Any units the learner may have already completed, or credit accumulated which is
relevant to the qualification.
Whilst there are no formal entry requirements, a certain level of literacy and numeracy will
be required by learners in the completion of assessment. Centre personnel who undertake
the initial assessment must be familiar with the qualification content and base their
discussions with learners around their abilities to complete tasks required as part of the
qualification.
