Peterson’s success at ASU and Tulsa landed
him the Tennessee job in 2001-02 and he spent four seasons in Knoxville. He compiled a 61-59 record with the Volunteers, collecting two NIT berths.
In 2005-06, Peterson moved on to Coastal Carolina and piloted the Chanticleers to a 35-25 mark in two seasons.
CCU registered its first 20-win season in 13 years in 2005-06 when the Chants went 20-10 before losing to Winthrop in
the Big South Conference championship game.
Peterson then joined the Bobcats and worked closely with former Head Coach Larry Brown as the organization’s top
talent evaluator for the 2009 NBA Draft.
Before his first stint at ASU, Peterson spent nine seasons as an assistant coach, with stints at Appalachian State
(1987-89), East Tennessee State (1989-90), N.C. State (1990-93) and Vanderbilt (1993-96). The teams that he served as
an assistant coach for racked up four post-season appearances, including two NCAA berths and two NIT bids, and went a
combined 154-117.
Before entering the coaching ranks, Peterson enjoyed an outstanding playing career at UNC Chapel Hill. He played
four seasons for legendary head coach Dean Smith from 1981-85 and helped lead the Tar Heels to a 115-22 record and
four Atlantic Coast Conference championships. He was a member of the 1982 national championship team, where he
played with future NBA stars Michael Jordan, James Worthy and Sam Perkins.
As a player in high school, Peterson was a Parade and McDonald’s All-American at Asheville High School in
Asheville, N.C.

Game Notes Vs. Liberty - Nov. 19, 2013
MARGIN OF VICTORY
ROAD HISTORY
The Seahawks suffered through their worst road
record in history last season with a 1-15 mark away
from home. UNCW also fashioned one-win seasons
away from Trask Coliseum in 2006-07 (1-13) and
2008-09 (1-14).
ROLLER COASTER SEASON
The UNCW men’s basketball team experienced a
topsy turvy 2012-13 campaign that saw the Seahawks
capture the Wilmington Division of the Nations of
Coaches Classic, upset CAA frontrunner Northeastern
during Homecoming at Trask Coliseum, struggle on
the road and witness senior forward Keith Rendleman
becoming the school’s all-time leading rebounder and
one of the greatest players in Colonial Athletic Association hoops history.
UNCW HOOPS HISTORY
UNCW is completing its 62nd season of intercollegiate hoops and 37th season of NCAA Division I
hoops. The Seahawks joined the D-I level in 1976-77
and became a member of the Colonial Athletic Association in 1984-85. UNCW owns an 863-806 (.517) overall
record in 62 seasons and a 556-522 (.515) ledger in
37 years of D-I play.
POST-SEASON SUCCESS
The Seahawks have appeared in four NCAA Tournaments and two NIT tourneys. UNCW won the CAA
Championship in 2000, 2002, 2003 and 2006 to earn
a berth in the NCAA Tournament and was awarded
an NIT invite in 1998 and 2001. UNCW recorded the
biggest win in the school’s history on Mar. 14, 2002,
when the Seahawks upset fifth-seeded Southern Cal,
93-89, in overtime at Arco Arena in Sacramento.
SEAHAWKS PICKED EIGHTH IN CAA
UNCW was selected by the league’s coaches, SID’s
and news media to finish eighth in the CAA’s nine-team
regular season race during the conference’s annual
Media Day on Oct. 22, 2013, in Baltimore, Md.

Wilmington, N.C. - Junior forward Cedrick Williams scored a
game-high 15 points to power UNCW over Belmont Abbey, 101-51,
in the most lopsided exhibition victory in the history of the program.
The Seahawks raced out to a 44-24 lead at the break and poured it
on after intermission, shooting 66.1 percent from the floor and placing
five men in double figures.
It marked the seventh time the Seahawks had eclipsed the 100-point
mark in an exhibition tilt.
Wilmington, N.C. - Tanner Milson led four players in double figures
as UNCW completed its preseason exhibition slate with a dominating
92-51 triumph over NCAA Division III Methodist.
The Seahawks raced out to a 43-23 lead at intermission behind
70.8 percent shooting and led by as many as 47 points in the second
half against the Monarchs.
Milson finished with 13 points off the bench for the Seahawks, who
forced 20 Methodist turnovers with 10 steals.
Iowa City, Iowa - Iowa used its decided size advantage and deep
bench to build a big halftime lead and cruise past the Seahawks,
82-39, in the season opener for both teams at Carver-Hawkeye
Arena.
The Hawkeyes shot 51.5 percent and forced 13 turnovers in the
first 20 minutes en route to a commanding 48-12 cushion at halftime
and never looked back.
Cedrick Williams had 15 points and nine rebounds for UNCW.
