UNCW SEAHAWKS
(1-5, 0-0 CAA)
Lynchburg, Va. - Vines Center - 7 p.m.
Today’s Game
Liberty (5-3) will tip off a season-long four-game homestand Saturday at 7 p.m. with its
first-ever contest against UNCW (1-5). Both teams won 20 or more games last season
and played in the postseason, with the Lady Flames making the NCAA Tournament and
the Seahawks qualifying for the WNIT.
The “Starting Five” - Today’s Top Storylines
1) Saturday’s game will mark the first-ever meeting between Liberty and UNCW in women’s basketball. Four of the Lady Flames’ first nine opponents this year have been firsttime foes, also including Duquesne, Grambling State and Sacred Heart.
2) Liberty will face its second CAA opponent this week, after recording a 60-48 win at
James Madison Tuesday evening, the Lady Flames’ first-ever triumph at JMU.
3) The Lady Flames, who will be opening a four-game homestand on Saturday, are 3-0 at
home this season and have won 11 consecutive contests at the Vines Center. Conversely,
UNC Wilmington is in search of its first road victory of 2012-13. The Seahawks are currently 0-4 away from Trask Coliseum.
4) Liberty has made 84.4 percent (38-of-45) of its free throws during the last two games,
led by Devon Brown. The redshirt senior has hit 18 straight foul shots, leaving her five
away from setting a new school record. Jennifer Fairfax made a school-record 22 consecutive free throws in 1991.
5) Saturday’s contest will pit the nation’s eighth-ranked team for rebound margin (Liberty)
against the nation’s 11th-ranked individual rebounder (UNCW’s Karneshia Garnett).

Notes and Anecdotes
• Jaymee Fisher-Davis’ mother, Carolyn, played basketball at UNCW.
• UNCW first-year head coach Adell Harris is familiar with Liberty from her time as a player
at Wake Forest (1998-2002) and as an assistant coach at UNC Asheville (2003-09). Harris was 1-1 against the Lady Flames as a player and 1-12 as an assistant coach.
• Saturday’s game will match up Liberty, which ranks No. 8 nationally for rebound margin
(+13.4), against UNCW’s Karneshia Garnett, who sits No. 11 in the nation with 12.3 rpg.
• Liberty will be facing its second CAA opponent this week, after posting a 60-48 win at
James Madison on Tuesday. Meanwhile, UNCW will be squaring off with a Big South foe
for the first time since recording a 72-70 win at Charleston Southern on Dec. 16, 2011.
• Liberty is 3-0 at home this season and has won 11 consecutive home tilts overall. On the
other side of the ledger, UNCW is in search of its first road win of 2012-13 after losing its
first four games away from Trask Coliseum.
• This will be the second straight season UNCW has played a game at the Vines Center.
The Seahawks’ men’s basketball team came away with a 77-68 win at Liberty on Dec. 6,
2011.
• UNCW is coming off of back-to-back 20-win seasons. The 2011-12 Seahawks finished
20-13 and played in the Postseason WNIT.
• UNCW was picked seventh of 11 teams in the CAA preseason coaches poll. By way of
comparison, Liberty’s Tuesday opponent, James Madison, was tabbed second in the poll.
• UNCW is Liberty’s fourth opponent this season that the Lady Flames are facing for the
first time (also Duquesne, Grambling State and Sacred Heart).

• Liberty held James Madison to a season-low point total (48) and field goal percentage
(26.8), while limiting CAA scoring leader Tarik Hislop to 12 points on 5-of-22 shooting.
• The Lady Flames nearly set a program single-game record for free throw accuracy, finishing at 90 percent (18-of-20) from the line. Liberty’s record is 94.7 percent (18-of-19), set
on March 5, 1994 against UMBC.
• Playing within 30 miles of her hometown (Waynesboro), Devon Brown led all players
with 22 points. Her fourth 20-point outing in the last five games was highlighted by a 9-of-9
effort from the free throw line.
• Brown, who now ranks 15th in Big South Conference history with 1,591 career points,
has made 18 consecutive free throw attempts. The school record is 22 straight made free
throws, set by Jennifer Fairfax in 1991.

points for the Lady Flames.
• Backcourt mate and fellow Texan Reagan Miller posted season highs for points (8), rebounds (4) and assists (5).

Fun at the Free Throw Line
Liberty has been quite successful at the free throw line this season, punctuated by its 18of-20 performance Tuesday evening at James Madison.
• Liberty just missed the program single-game record for free throw accuracy on Tuesday.
The standard sits at 94.7 percent (18-of-19).
• The Lady Flames are making 72.4 percent of their free throws this season. The program
single-season record is 72.8 percent, set by the 2007-08 squad.
• Both Devon Brown (18 in a row) and Reagan Miller (10 in a row) are on lengthy streaks
of made free throws. The program record of 22 straight made foul shots was established
by Jennifer Fairfax in 1991.
• Miller has connected on nine straight free throws to start the season. No Lady Flame had
made nine consecutive foul shots to open a year since Moriah Frazee connnected on her
first 14 charity tosses of the 2005-06 campaign.
Speed Limit 65
Liberty has scored 65 or more points in four of its five victories this season, continuing a
recent trend.
• The Lady Flames have won 11 straight games when reaching the 65-point mark, dating
back to last season. Liberty is also 20-1 the last 21 times it has tallied 65 or more points.
Come Home to the Commonwealth
Liberty, which spent Thanksgiving week in Texas, is now staying within the Commonwealth of Virginia for a month, until a Dec. 29 contest at Winthrop. The Lady Flames have
five home games and road tilts at Radford, James Madison and VCU scheduled during
the span. Liberty will play 20 of its 29 regular-season games in Virginia this season.
