BEARKATS (1-2)
GOLDEN EAGLES (2-0)
Huntsville, Texas - Bernard G. Johnson Coliseum.
The Game
Liberty heads to Huntsville, Texas to continue play in the Progressive Legends Classic.
The Flames will first meet UC Irvine on Monday, before squaring off with Sam Houston
State and Southern Miss. Tipoff for the Flames first-ever meeting with the Anteaters is
slated for 6 p.m. (EST).
What to Watch For
- Casey Roberts is providing the Flames with fire power off the bench. Against Georgetown on Wednesday, the junior led Liberty with 13 points. Prior to the performance, he
posted 11 tallies against William & Mary.
- Last season, Liberty averaged about four three-point field goals per game. This year, the
Flames are knocking down just under seven treys per contest. Davon Marshall is pacing
the Flames from the perimeter with eight three-pointers.
- Despite the absence of Antwan Burrus, Tomasz Gielo and Joel Vander Pol, the Flames
are getting big minutes from the rest of its post players. At Georgetown on Wednesday, JR
Coronado finished with a game-high 13 rebounds.

Notes and Anecdotes
- Head coach Russell Turner is a ’92 graduate of Hampden-Sydney, a Division III institution located approximately 50 miles east of Liberty in Hampden-Sydney, Va. The Flames
matched up with the Tigers on 11 occasions from 1973 to 1978. Hampden-Sydney went
8-3 against Liberty during the span.
- Liberty’s appearance in the tournament marks its third straight trip to Texas in as many
seasons. During the 2010-11 season, Liberty visited the Lone Star State for the South
Padre Island Invitational and returned last year when it opened the season against Texas
A&M in College Station, Texas.
- John Caleb Sanders will be playing within 100 miles of his hometown of Sugar Land,
Texas during the Flames three-day stay in Huntsville, Texas.
- Monday’s contest marks the second-ever meeting with a member of the Big West and
the first in nearly 16 years. The Flames squared off with Cal Poly in the Fresno State Invitational on Nov. 29, 1996, edging the Mustangs, 67-65.
- The matchup is the first time a Dale Layer coached squad has played a Big West member.

Flames, grabbing a career-high eight rebounds.
- Liberty is the second Big South squad to compete in the Legends Classic. GardnerWebb was a participant in the tournament in 2010.

Coach’s Comments
“Jarred is very mature, athletic, long and plays 2-3 different positions. He scores the ball
several different ways and is coming off a really good freshman year at junior college.
He brings toughness, scoring leadership and athleticism to us. He’s a guy that we are
expecting to be really good quickly and we need him to assume some major scoring and
defensive roles for us.”

vs. Georgetown (11-14-12)
Coach’s Comments
“Davon is very experienced and plays two different positions. He played on the third-best
junior college team at the point and shooting guard positions. He was their leading scorer
and is a big game guy. He’s got a great spirit about him. He is a guy that brings toughness,
leadership and the ability to score the ball in many ways.”

Coach’s Comments
“Larry is a team guy, who had a stellar high school career. He is a pure point guard, who
understands the game. He can
score the

and pass
it. I like his feel for how he plays
2012-13
Liberty
Basketball

and how he fits our Liberty
