Structure Data of Free Polyatomic Molecules 149 LIF CNNi State Energy [eV] r0(Ni–C) [Å] r0(C≡N) [Å] Nickel cyanide Nickel monocyanide C∞v Ni–C≡N ~ X1 2∆5/2 0.00 1.8292(28) 1.1591(29) NiCN molecules were produced by the reaction of laser-ablated nickel atoms with cyanogen under supersonic jet-cooled conditions. The isotopic species NiC15N was produced in a similar way except that acetonitrile-15N was used instead of cyanogen. Laser-excited ~ ~ fluorescence in the region 500…630 nm revealed seven electronic states, X1 2∆5/2, X 2 2∆3/2, ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ W1 2Π3/2, A 2∆5/2, B 2Π3/2, C 2Φ7/2 and D 2Φ5/2.
