Gatorade Player of the Year Award The Gatorade Player of the Year award was first given in 1999. During the play-offs of 1999 Rich passed away in his sleep one night after having watched his favorite show – Monday Night Football. Rich was always a happy guy, having fun and getting everyone to laugh and have a good time. To many, Jerry symbolizes the ideal role model for young people. He was enthusiastic motivator who encourages his students and athletes to achieve their potential. Jerry and his wife Carol became the proud parents of ten children and Carol is now the grandmother of over thirty grandchildren. The Dann family continues to live the legacy Jerry left: one of values, goals, motivation, optimism and faith. His life continues to inspire his family and many former students and athletes. The program was designed to help establish a better relationship between the youth in the area and law enforcement. The officers come to practice and the games and get to know the kids on a personal level. This player “buys into the program”. He plays with passion, he puts in a tremendous amount of time and effort and does whatever it takes to help the team on and off the field. 2004- Tim Carr 2005–Gregory Christine 2006–Stephen Fink 2007 — Chris Perham 2008– Marcus Langkilde The Harry Mack Scout Team Player of the Year Award This award represents the epitome of hard work, perseverance and loyalty. This award is named in honor of Long Time St. Bonaventure Football Coach Jon Mack’s father. The most elite Catholic high school players would be selected for this award. The players were selected according to the following criteria. Are they a person of faith, do they practice their faith and are they an example of faith? Do they have a strong family bond and is the family involved with the player and his team? His younger sister Jeannine was a member of the cheerleading squad and to honor Peter’s memory and to show respect to Jeannine, “PA” stickers were worn (and still are) by the players on their helmets. This award represents inspiration. “It was a cold, wet evening at the stadium as we played the 1996 CIF Championship game at Nordhoff High School. We were behind and just before halftime the team to play really well at the EXACT moment we felt a warm breeze float across the stadium.
