Rich Gutierrez Award
Rich was a long time friend of the program and was the older brother of football coach Tim
Gutierrez. During the play-offs of 1999 Rich passed away in his sleep one night after having
watched his favorite show – Monday Night Football. Rich was always a happy guy, having fun
and getting everyone to laugh and have a good time. Football was fun for Rich and the
recipient of this award shows that football is FUN!

The Jerry Dann Memorial Award
In 1979 Jerry Dann (1935-1983) became a teacher and the head football
coach at Saint Bonaventure High School. To many, Jerry symbolizes the ideal
role model for young people. He was enthusiastic motivator who encourages
his students and athletes to achieve their potential. Jerry and his wife Carol
became the proud parents of ten children and Carol is now the grandmother
of over thirty grandchildren. The Dann family continues to live the legacy
Jerry left: one of values, goals, motivation, optimism and faith. His life
continues to inspire his family and many former students and athletes. The
Jerry Dann Memorial Trophy symbolizes the ideals he treasured:
“Dream of the greatest you can be..…and then become even more!”

Cops N’ Jocks Award
Officer Richard Randolph started the Cops n’ Jocks program over ten years
ago and George Morris was the one to bring the program to St. Bonaventure
in 1997. The program was designed to help establish a better relationship
between the youth in the area and law enforcement. The officers come to
practice and the games and get to know the kids on a personal level.
Together, over the years, the athletes and the officers have worked
together on many community service projects in Ventura County.

Heart of a Seraph
The Heart of a Seraph Award was created in 2004 to honor the player who
never gives up. This player “buys into the program”. He plays with passion, he
puts in a tremendous amount of time and effort and does whatever it takes to
help the team on and off the field.

The Harry Mack Scout Team Player of the Year Award
This award represents the epitome of hard work, perseverance and loyalty.
This award is named in honor of Long Time St. Bonaventure Football Coach
Jon Mack’s father. The recipient of this award has made contribution to the
team each and every day and emulates the spirit of Harry Mack.

Faith – Family – Football
The Tradition of this award began at a catholic high school in Los Angeles. The most
elite Catholic high school players would be selected for this award. The players
were selected according to the following criteria.
Are they a person of faith, do they practice their faith and are they an example
of faith?
Do they have a strong family bond and is the family involved with the player
and his team?
Did they achieve on and off the field and were they a leader to their
teammates?

Peter Aguirre Award
During the summer of 1996 Officer Peter Aguirre was shot and killed while
in the line of duty. His younger sister Jeannine was a member of the
cheerleading squad and to honor Peter’s memory and to show respect to
Jeannine, “PA” stickers were worn (and still are) by the players on their
helmets. This award represents inspiration.
“It was a cold, wet evening at the stadium as we played the 1996 CIF
Championship game at Nordhoff High School. We were behind and just before
halftime the team to play really well at the EXACT moment we felt a warm
breeze float across the stadium. Everyone knew it was the angel of Peter
Aguirre.”
