Today’s Game
Liberty (11-5, 3-1 Big South) will begin a two-game Big South swing through South Carolina Thursday at 7 p.m., when the Lady Flames visit Charleston Southern (5-7, 0-3 Big
South).
The “Starting Five” - Today’s Top Storylines
1) Liberty is in search of its fifth consecutive road victory. The Lady Flames are 86-11 in
Big South road games under head coach Carey Green, including a 41-3 mark in the state
of South Carolina.
2) Meanwhile, Charleston Southern will try for its first Big South win of the year and will
attempt to snap a three-game losing skid. The Buccaneers have been playing without
leading scorer Rachelle Coward due to injury. Coward averaged 21.3 ppg against Liberty
last season.
3) Liberty has found the Buc Dome a difficult venue in recent years. The Lady Flames
dropped a 54-51 decision at Charleston Southern on Feb. 28, 2011. Liberty then had to
rally from a nine-point deficit to post a 79-64 victory at CSU last season (Jan. 16, 2012).
4) Tolu Omotola played well against the Buccaneers last season, posting 12.3 ppg and
9.3 rpg during three meetings. She notched her first career double-double (11 points, 11
rebounds) during a 72-52 win over CSU in the Big South Championship semifinals on
March 10, 2012.
5) Liberty will face a Fred Applin-coached team for the first time since Nov. 25, 1996. That
day, the Lady Flames recorded an 85-52 win over Hampton at the Vines Center, which
was Liberty’s first-ever triumph against the Pirates.

Notes and Anecdotes
• First-year Charleston Southern head coach Fred Applin has known Liberty head coach
Carey Green for many years. Applin got his start in collegiate coaching by spending five
seasons (1988-93) as an assistant at North Carolina. During that same time, Green was
an assistant coach at ACC rival Clemson.
• Charleston Southern 6-6 redshirt junior forward Carra Coy played for Liberty during the
2009-10 and 2010-11 seasons, appearing in a total of 25 games.
• CSU senior Rachelle Coward was the Big South Player of the Week during the opening
week of the season before suffering an injury. Coward, who averaged 21.3 ppg and 4.7
three-pointers/game against Liberty last year, has not played since Nov. 14.
• Charleston Southern is happy that Avery Warley graduated after the 2011-12 season.
Warley averaged 15.0 ppg and 14.0 rpg during 10 career matchups with the Buccaneers,
including three games of 20 rebounds or more. In her place, CSU will have to deal with
Tolu Omotola, who averaged 12.3 ppg and 9.3 rpg versus the Buccaneers in 2011-12.
• Liberty lost at Charleston Southern by a 54-51 score during the 2010-11 season and

A Look Back at Liberty’s 75-49 Win Over UNC Asheville
• Liberty bounced back from a loss to Presbyterian College in impressive fashion, never
trailing during Saturday’s 75-49 win over UNC Asheville at the Vines Center.
• It was the Lady Flames’ 12th consecutive victory in their head-to-head series with the
Bulldogs. Meanwhile, Asheville has now lost 16 straight games against Big South opponents and 22 consecutive road games.
• Liberty has still not lost back-to-back Big South games since Feb. 20 and 22, 1997.

• The Lady Flames finished with significant advantages in rebounds (42-23) and points in
the paint (40-14).
• Liberty has now outrebounded 11 consecutive opponents and kept 11 straight foes below 50 percent field goal shooting, with Asheville closing the contest at 39.1 percent.
• The Lady Flames equaled a season low with 12 turnovers and tallied 23 points off of the
Bulldogs’ 17 miscues.
• Ashley Rininger’s career-high 17 points (which came in just 18 minutes) keyed Liberty’s
32-11 advantage in bench points.
• After shooting 2-of-12 against Presbyterian, Tolu Omotola led all players in both points
(19) and rebounds (8) on Saturday. She also moved into 20th place on Liberty’s career
rebounding chart with 530 boards.
• Devon Brown chipped in 15 points in only 18 minutes, climbing to No. 11 on the Big
South all-time scoring list with 1,725 career markers.
• Despite playing just 13 minutes, Emily Frazier topped the Lady Flames with three assists. In her last four games, Liberty’s starting point guard has totaled 23 assists and only
four turnovers.
• No Lady Flame played more than Tolu Omotola’s 25 minutes, as 11 different players saw
at least 11 minutes of playing time.
Shortage of Streaks
Liberty successfully bounced back from its 51-49 home loss to Presbyterian College on
Jan. 3 with a 75-49 victory over UNC Asheville two days later, keeping the following trends
alive.
• The Lady Flames have not lost back-to-back home games since Nov. 14 and Dec. 7,
2008 (VCU and Auburn).
• Liberty has not dropped consecutive Big South contests (including regular-season and
tournament games) since Feb. 20 and 22, 1997 (UNCG and Winthrop).
• Liberty has not lost two Big South home games in a row since dropping five conference
home games in succession, spanning two seasons (Feb. 20, 1995 - Feb. 3, 1996).
Spreading the Wealth
Eleven different Lady Flames have scored in double figures during at least one game this
season, including Katelyn Adams, Devon Brown, Brittany Campbell, Sadalia Ellis, Emily
Frazier, Jasmine Gardner, Reagan Miller, Tolu Omotola, Ashley Rininger, Ellee Rollins and
LaKendra Washington.
• This is the first time 11 different Liberty players have reached double figures in a season
since 2008-09, when 11 players also accomplished the feat. Brittany Campbell scored in
double digits twice that year as a freshman.

• Adams recorded her first career double-double on Dec. 13 against Bluefield State, while
setting career highs for both points (13) and rebounds (12). She had posted a doubledouble by halftime, with 12 points and 10 boards during the first half.
• The 12 rebounds Adams and classmate Ashley Rininger each pulled down against Bluefield State (Dec. 13) were the most by a Liberty freshman since Jasmine Gardner collected 13 caroms versus Glenville State on Nov. 30, 2010.
• Adams made an impressive collegiate debut at Duquesne on Nov. 9. She finished with
eight points off of the bench, while sharing the team lead with eight rebounds and blocking
