THE GREEN & GOLD GAZETTE
May 2017
Principal’s Message
The May issue of the Gazette will be the last edition for this school year as
graduation is June 2rd and the underclass is finished on June 9th. Important
information regarding next school year will be mailed out during the summer
along with e-mail reminders through TeacherEase.
We salute the graduating Class of 2017 on their many accomplishments and
successes and we wish them all the best as they move on to the next chapter of
their lives.
We would also like to welcome the new Class of 2021. The nervous days of
freshmen year will very quickly move to the “what’s next in my life” senior year.
Welcome and enjoy the ride!
Senior Academic Awards: Senior Academic Awards will be held on Thursday, May 26th at 12:30 p.m. in
the Athletic Center. The event has been moved to the afternoon in the hopes that more students and parents
will attend. Parents and grandparents are more than welcome to attend.
Graduation and Baccalaureate Mass: A letter was mailed home the last week of April regarding details
about graduation. Baccalaureate Mass will be at Our Lady of the Assumption Church at 12 noon on June 2rd
with graduation to follow at Ventura College at 4:00 p.m. Admission to graduation is by ticket only.
Class of 2021: In-coming ninth grade Parent Orientation will be Monday, May 15th at 6:30 in the gym.
iPad Digital Books: Digital books are being purchased by the school this year and will be uploaded to all
student iPad’s during the first week of school. More information will be sent home during the summer.
Service Hours: Parent Service forms are due to the office by mid-May. The form can be downloaded from
the website. Families will be billed for hours not completed as stipulated in the tuition contract.

Message from the Dean of Curriculum
Fourth quarter has begun and we are in the home stretch!
SBHS is an exciting place as many seniors are being accepted to great colleges!
A big THANK YOU to all families who attended our Parent/Teacher Conferences and our Pre.AP/AP parent
meeting in April! Student applications are coming in, and I think there are some great selections and candidates for our higher level courses. Check out our school website, Pre.AP/AP section if you missed our
meeting and are interested in hearing testimonials from our alumni regarding the value of taking AP classes at
SBHS.
Students interested in joining our Leadership Academy should download a copy of the application from our
school website. There are spaces available in the level one, Leadership Fundamentals. Other new courses for
the call include Computer Science and Computer Programing. Mr. Anderson and Mr. Van Hoven are currently working on the course content which will include coding, web design and programing. Also new for the fall
school year, is Yearbook-Digital Design. This course will be available during the school day, and is a UC
approved elective. Students interested should speak with Mrs. Kistler for more details.
AP testing is May 1-10. Please turn in testing fees to the Administration Office.
Summer school information is available in the office.
I thought I’d share some great information from ACT in college planning. Please take a moment to read
through this information as it pertains to your student:
ACT provides this monthly newsletter to inform students and their parents about college and career
planning. ACT is a not-for-profit organization that serves millions of people in schools, colleges,
professional associations, businesses and government agencies with programs and services that help
people achieve their education and career goals. Visit www.actstudent.org for more information
and services.
Sincerely,
Mrs. Christina Castro
