Dean attended St. Bonaventure H.S from 1971-1975. He played Varsity baseball during his sophomore, junior, and senior years. In the Tri-Valley League, Dean made first team All-League in 1974 and 1975 and was also
voted to the All CIF second team for all California High Schools in 1975 as a pitcher. That year, St. Bonaventure played the first night game in Ventura County in over 20 years and Dean pitched a no-hitter, striking out
18 batters in a 5-0 victory. He finished his senior season with a record of 5-2 in league play with an ERA of 0.70.
Dean was also voted the team MVP.
In June 1975, Dean was drafted in the 16th round by the Atlanta Braves. He signed a professional contract and
was sent to play in the Appalachian League at Kingsport, Tennessee. Dean played two years in the Braves organization and was released in 1977. He was then signed by the Minnesota Twins organization and played at
Wisconsin Rapids, WI in the Midwest League. The following season in 1978, Dean played in the California
League for the Visalia Oaks where they finished in first place winning 100 games and also set a record for the
most runs scored in a season, 1007. His pitching record that year was 10 wins and 4 losses, the best and final season of his career. Hereturned to college and graduated with his Business Degree from Cal Poly San Luis
Obispo in 1981.
Dean currently resides in Camarillo. He and his wife have raised three daughters, two of which are currently attending out of state colleges and his youngest is a junior in High School.
