Daniel Abeloe ('06)

HALL OF FAME
CLASS
OF
2013
Daniel Abeloe started playing Little League baseball at Saticoy Little League when he was 5 years old. By the time he was 7 he was already known as a very good pitcher. He had a nature curve to his fastball that other 7 year olds had trouble hitting. By age 10 he was playing travel ball. Sometimes his dad would have to throw him in the back of the truck because he was reluctant to play, but by the time he arrived at the game, he was ready. Every summer was spent playing baseball into early August. At one point, he decided not to play anymore.
He said he missed all the social events like friends birthdays, but a couple months later he was back playing. It was a very good decision.
Daniel, a 2006 SBHS graduate was arguably one of the top pitchers in Seraph Baseball History. He was a 4 year Varsity player and
led the Seraphs to 3 straight TVL titles and to the CIF-SS Championship game for only the 2nd time in school history. His senior year
in 2006 was one for the record books as Daniel finished with a 13 win 1 loss record with an ERA of a paltry 0.64. He recorded the 2nd
most strike outs in an SBHS season with 99. He avenged a 2005 CIF Semi-final loss by pitching a masterful 2-1 victory over Serrano to
lead the Seraphs to the title game. The highlight of the season was his 8 inning 3-2 win over the # 1 ranked team in California, JustinSienna of Napa, snapping their 45 game win streak which was the 2nd longest streak in California High School Baseball History. For the
season Daniel earned the SBHS Most Valuable Player Award, SBHS Pitcher of the Year Award, 1st team All-TVL, 1st team All
Ventura County (as well as VC Pitcher of the Year), 1st team All CIF-SS and 1st team All State. Over the course of his 4 years at
SBHS, Daniel received the SBHS Pitcher of the Year Award all 4 years. He was twice named 1st team All CIF and was a 2nd team
selection as a Sophomore. He was 3 times voted All TVL and 3 times voted All Ventura County with 2 pitcher of the year awards. His
13 wins as a senior ranks as the most wins in a season in SBHS history and ranks top 5 in Ventura County history. Daniel also recorded
the 2nd most wins in a Seraph season with 10 as a Sophomore. He graduated with a Seraph record 34 career wins which ranked # 3 in
Ventura County history. Daniel finished his high school career with another school record of 300 innings pitched. He finished # 2 all time
behind fellow Hall of Famer, Gilbert Infante with 277 strike outs and # 2 all time with a high school era of 1.35. He also threw 2 one hitters
in his high school career.
Daniel went on to pitch at Oxnard College and San Francisco State University. Daniel works in law enforcement and is a deputy with the
Ventura County Sheriff’s Department. He recently got married to his High School Sweetheart, Jenna Schafer (as in 2 weeks ago!) and
they make their home in Ventura.
