It will also be the Flames’ first game against Appalachian State since Sept. 21, 2002 and Liberty’s first visit to Boone since Sept. 1, 2001. 2 - This will be Liberty’s second game against an FBS opponent in 2014, after the Flames opened the year with a 56-29 loss at North Carolina on Aug. 30. Liberty also faced a pair of FBS foes in 2013, including Kent State and Old Dominion. 3- Liberty is in search of its third victory over Appalachian State. Both of the Flames’ previous wins over the Mountaineers have come at Kidd Brewer Stadium, in 1993 and 1997. The Flames are also seeking their third win all-time versus an FBS opponent. The Flames recorded a 25-24 win at Eastern Michigan on Oct. 14, 1989 and a 27-23 triumph at Ball State on Sept. 11, 2010. 4 - Liberty is facing four North Carolina-based squads during the 2014 season, including North Carolina, Brevard, Appalachian State and Gardner-Webb.
