MESSIAH COLLEGE MASTER OF ARTS IN COUNSELING SUMMER 2014 NEWSLETTER TRANSITIONS TO NEW ROLES Dr. John Addleman will continue in his role as Director of the Graduate Counseling Program and as the Associate Provost for graduate and Nontraditional Programs. Dr. Leah Clarke will be acting as an Assistant Director of the Counseling program. Her focus will be on assessment, accreditation, planning, and technology (best practices). Dr. Heather Barto will be acting as an Assistant Director of the Counseling program. Her focus will be on student recruitment and admissions. FACULTY NEWS Lessons from Lilongwe: A Counselor Goes Abroad Dr. Leah Clarke, faculty member in Messiah’s Graduate Counseling Program, recently went to Malawi with a delegation of US counselors to support counseling in southern Africa. Her experiences ranged from meeting one of Africa’s three female presidents to providing grief education to secondary school students. On May 1, Dr. Clarke shared her reflections and discussed opportunities for helping professionals to be trained or serve abroad. Requirements: • The conference must offer at least 3 hours of continuing education that is equivalent to your future license/certification. • The length of the conference must be at least a half day and it must be attended in person. • The conference will need to be approved by your advisor prior to attendance. After the conference, students are required to submit a copy of your CEU or attendance certificate to your advisor and Holly Myers.
