JOHNS HOPKINS BLOOMBERG SCHOOL OF PUBLIC HEALTH Johns Hopkins Center for Injury Research & Policy TRAINING, EDUCATION, AND SCHOLARSHIP OPPORTUNITIES Training, education, and scholarship opportunities in injury prevention and control at the Johns Hopkins Center for Injury Research and Policy are numerous. These opportunities include: DEGREE AND EDUCATIONAL PROGRAMS • Degree programs. Students may matriculate in a variety of Departments at the Johns Hopkins Bloomberg School of Public Health, such as Health Policy and Management, and Health, Behavior and Society. Degree programs include the PhD, DrPH, ScD, MPH, MSPH, MPP, and MHS. • Certificate in Injury and Violence Prevention. Designed for students enrolled in a graduate degree program at the Bloomberg School who are interested in acquiring in-depth knowledge in injury and violence prevention. More than a dozen courses are available as options to complete the certificate. CONTINUING EDUCATION • Summer Institute on Principles and Practice in Injury Prevention. This intensive, competency-based short course is led by Center faculty, and held in June. It is designed to enhance participants’ knowledge and skills in injury and violence prevention. It is an ideal course for both newcomers to the field and those who seek to broaden and advance their expertise in injury prevention. SCHOLARSHIPS AND FELLOWSHIPS • Susan P. Baker Scholarship. Established in 2012 as part of the 25th anniversary celebration of the Center, the scholarship was created to provide support for an outstanding doctoral student at the Bloomberg School who has demonstrated great promise to make significant contributions to the field of injury prevention and control. • The William Haddon Jr. Fellowship in Injury Prevention. Named to honor Dr. Haddon, a pioneer in the field of injury control and prevention, this fellowship is an endowment designed to stimulate academic excellence in injury prevention. The fund provides tuition and stipend support for an outstanding doctoral student in the Department of Health Policy and Management. • The Nancy A. Robertson Scholarship in Injury Prevention. The Leon Robertson family has endowed this scholarship fund to honor Nancy A. Robertson. Exceptional doctoral or postdoctoral students specializing in injury prevention in the Department of Health Policy and Management are selected to receive support. Johns Hopkins Center for Injury Research & Policy NIH/CDC-SPONSORED TRAINING OPPORTUNITIES • Occupational Injury Epidemiology and Prevention Training Fellowship. Focusing on injury prevention and control, students supported on this training grant take courses in injury epidemiology, occupational safety, quantitative and qualitative research methods, prevention policy, and behavioral and social sciences. Funding from the National Institute for Occupational Safety and Health (NIOSH) helps support tuition and stipend for eligible doctoral students. • Interdisciplinary Research Training on Violence in the Family. The goal of this doctoral and postdoctoral fellowship is to train individuals to study the causes and prevention of violence and its physical, reproductive, mental, and social health consequences, along with research on preventive interventions. Students can matriculate through multiple Departments in the Schools of Public Health, Medicine, and Nursing.
