The Major League Baseball Medical Assessment and Research Center (BMARC) is a new entity
of various stakeholders aimed at improving the safety and health of professional baseball players
using innovation and research across the spectrum of care. Dr. Pollack will discuss BMARC and
the involvement of Johns Hopkins University, present an overview of current research projects,
and share why she feels that the issue of baseball player health and safety should be viewed
through an occupational injury lens.
Dr. Pollack uses injury epidemiology, health policy, translational research, and health impact
assessment to advance policies that create safe and healthy environments where people,
particularly the most vulnerable, live, work, play, and travel. Her research focuses on identifying
risk factors for, and strategies to prevent, injuries related to occupation, obesity, sports and
recreation, physical activity, and the built environment. She is also engaged in research that
seeks to strengthen food policy councils and promote safe opportunities for play and physical
activity to prevent childhood obesity.
This seminar will be recorded and available for viewing online 2-3 weeks after the event: here
