CH A P T E R 6 Navigating Cisco Prime Health and Utilization Monitor Tasks in LMS 4.2 Cisco Prime Health and Utilization Monitor (HUM) is a Simple Network Management Protocol (SNMP)–based MIB polling application that monitors network elements (such as CPU, memory, interfaces/ports, and links) for their availability and utilization levels and provides historical reporting. This chapter provides mapping of HUM tasks in Cisco Prime LMS 4.2. It explains: • Poller and Template Management Tasks • Threshold and TrendWatch Tasks • Reports Tasks • Administration Tasks Poller and Template Management Tasks This section provides information on the following HUM tasks in LMS 4.2: • Poller Management Tasks • Template Management Tasks Navigation Guide for Cisco Prime LAN Management Solution 4.2 OL-25959-01 6-1 Chapter 6 Navigating Cisco Prime Health and Utilization Monitor Tasks in LMS 4.2 Threshold and TrendWatch Tasks Table 6-1 Poller and Template Management Tasks LMS 3.2 Task Name LMS 3.2 Navigation LMS 4.2 Navigation Description Poller Management Tasks Managing Pollers Monitor > Performance Settings: CiscoWorks LMS Portal > Health and Utilization Monitor > Setup > Pollers Poller and Template Management > Poller Management A Poller is a collection of devices and template MIB variables configured in LMS to monitor the utilization and availability levels of devices that are connected to the network. You can create a Poller, modify the configuration of a Poller, delete a Poller, Activate or De-activate a Poller, clear missed cycles and so on. Template Management Tasks Managing Templates Monitor > Performance Settings: CiscoWorks LMS Portal > Health and Utilization Monitor > Setup > Templates Poller and Template Management > Template Management Templates are a logical group of MIB variables that allow you to monitor the performance parameters of a device (such as CPU, memory, interface) for utilization and availability levels. You can create a user-defined template, modify the configuration of a user-defined template, export and import a user-defined template, delete a user-defined template, and so on. Threshold and TrendWatch Tasks This section provides information on the following HUM tasks in LMS 4.2: • Threshold Setup Tasks • TrendWatch Setup Tasks Navigation Guide for Cisco Prime LAN Management Solution 4.2 6-2 OL-25959-01 Chapter 6 Navigating Cisco Prime Health and Utilization Monitor Tasks in LMS 4.2 Reports Tasks Table 6-2 Threshold and TrendWatch Tasks LMS 3.2 Task Name LMS 3.2 Navigation LMS 4.2 Navigation Description Threshold Setup Tasks Monitor > Threshold Settings: CiscoWorks LMS Portal > Health and Utilization Monitor > Performance Threshold Management > Threshold Setup Creating and Managing Thresholds You can create a threshold for a MIB variable, modify the threshold set for a MIB variable and delete the threshold. TrendWatch Setup Tasks Monitor > Threshold Settings: CiscoWorks LMS Portal > Health and Utilization Monitor > TrendWatch TrendWatch Management > TrendWatch Setup Creating and Managing TrendWatches You can create a TrendWatch for a MIB variable, based on a template or on a threshold. You can create, modify, delete, activate or de-activate a TrendWatch. Reports Tasks This section provides information on the following HUM tasks in LMS 4.2: Table 6-3 • Report Management Tasks • Report Job Browser Tasks Reports Tasks LMS 3.2 Task Name LMS 3.2 Navigation LMS 4.2 Navigation Description Report Management Tasks Viewing and Managing Reports Reports > Performance: Device CiscoWorks LMS Portal > Health and Utilization Monitor > Or Reports > Report Management Reports > Faults and Events: Threshold Violation You create, view, schedule and manage the following reports: • Device Reports • Quick Reports • Poller Reports • Custom Reports • Threshold Violation Reports • TrendWatch Reports • TrendWatch Summary Reports Report Job Browser Tasks Accessing Report Job Browser CiscoWorks LMS Portal > Admin > Jobs: Browser Health and Utilization Monitor > Reports > Report Job Browser The Job browser allows you to view the list of report jobs scheduled to generate reports. Configure and manage log level settings. You can set log level modes (such as Fatal, Error, Info, Debug) either for all application modules or at a module level. Purging jobs Admin > Network: Purge CiscoWorks LMS Portal > Health and Utilization Monitor > Settings > Performance Job Admin > System Preferences > Purge Settings Job Purge You can configure LMS to periodically purge job data that you no longer need. Seting up the report publish location Reports > Report Settings: CiscoWorks LMS Portal > Health and Utilization Monitor > Report Publish Path Admin > System Preferences > Report Publish Path LMS allows you to publish the PDF, HTML and CSV format of all the reports to a directory location of your choice. This is done by setting a default directory path. Purging data Admin > Network: Purge CiscoWorks LMS Portal > Health and Utilization Monitor > Settings > Performance Data Admin > System Preferences > Purge Settings Data Purge You can configure LMS to periodically purge polled data that you no longer need in the database. View Purge Details Admin > Network: Purge CiscoWorks LMS Portal > Health and Utilization Monitor > Settings > Performance Data Admin > System Preferences > Purge Summary Purge Details You can view the details of the data purged in LMS Configuring Poll Settings CiscoWorks LMS Portal > Health and Utilization Monitor > Admin > System Preferences > Poll Settings Admin > Collection Settings: Performance > Performance Management SNMP Timeouts and Retry Settings LMS allows you to configure the SNMP timeout and SNMP retries. The SNMP timeout and SNMP retries are based on the device and network response time. • SNMP timeout is the duration of time that LMS waits for the device to respond before it tries to query the device again. • SNMP retry is the maximum number of times LMS retries to query the device. The new MIB file is compiled and stored in LMS. You can use the new MIB file to create new templates by grouping MIB variables. Reports > Audit: Performance Viewing Audit Trail CiscoWorks LMS Portal > Log Report Health and Utilization Monitor > Admin > System Preferences > Audit Trail Logging You can view the Audit Trail Logging report for all modules, categories and users. Creating Trap Receiver Groups Monitor > Fault Settings: SNMP CiscoWorks LMS Portal > Health and Utilization Monitor > Traps > Receiving Admin > System Preferences > Or Trap Receiver Groups Admin > Network: Notification and Action Settings > Performance - SNMP Trap Notification LMS allows you to create SNMP Trap Receiver Groups. This is a group of hosts that receives specified trap notifications, when any TrendWatch or Threshold violation occurs in LMS. Creating a Syslog Receiver Group CiscoWorks LMS Portal > Health and Utilization Monitor > Admin > System Preferences > Syslog Receiver Groups Admin > Network: Notification and Action Settings > Performance - Syslog notification LMS allows you to create Syslog Receiver Groups. Syslog Receiver Groups is a group of hosts that receives Syslog messages when any TrendWatch or Threshold violation occurs in HUM.
